So sorcery=evil?
In the dev blog they said that sorcery in the Conan universe in always the bad guys.
Bit sad really, because i almost always play characters with magic abilities, but from what i understood from the video, it does'nt sound very temting to play as it this time.
Unless they'll add some good spells,as well as the darker ones.:)
If not , well, dual wielding is a good second...:)

Sorcery in this universe is nothing like the combat magic you have in others.

Conan leans far more heavily to incantations. There is nearly no combat magic if any at all.

Magic is pretty rare in Hyboria. It is special not common. Been a long time since I read the Howard books which are the gospel but I am sure you could find some good magic on there.

Oh it exists.... but the OP seems to want combat magic.... similar to the elder scrolls magic.

One example of good magic is the incarnations and rituals to remove corruption from the afflicted.

I do not understand how people expect this to be something different than what is in the Conan Universe already. If in the Conan Universe Sorcery =bad, than by all mean that is what it is. How can you expect something different or be disappointed about it not been good magic. Or good alignment.

Maybe it would be good for you to see what kind of universe it is before you act surprise like is something new. Conan Universe has been around for sometime and if you have ever read or wanted to know information on it . There is material on the internet already so you can learn what is all about. Rather then acting all surprise like the Dev are just making things up on the fly. They seem to be following the lore of the universe and I'm sure if you read even just a comic book you may gain insight on even future bosses, land ( biomes), items, relics and Armies, ect..

Here is a link on magic for you.

In AOC the magic users per se are really just using demonic powers. The priest of mitra is basically the good sorcerer option. In Exiles, it's hard to figure because so far they have mitra just as evil as the other religions. Might be a quirk of early access, not clear right now.

Yes, the Dark Templar and the Demonologue. :steammocking: But I think that Age of Conan is not a reference when we talk about magic in Conan Exiles. The AoC magic and classes are a bit too "mainstream" and better comparable to other MMORPG classes than to magic as Howard described it. The devs get their inspiration much more from the books this time (also from the movies: snake arrows).
There is definitely no demarcation between good/evil or dark/light magic in Howards works (like there are not absolute good gods, Mitra comes near to this, but the most other gods in Howards world are not the "nice guys"). I think magic comes often together with rituals that demand an sacrifice, or with demonic powers. And it is mostly used by people that abuse magic for their own purposes. All of this makes the "hyborian magic" not so nice. :)
And do not forget: Conan, the hero of the stories, does not use magic (or he is not pretty happy with this, if he is forced to use it. He does not understand magic but he is aware of its mostly dark sources).

Akiro from the movies played by Maku Iwamatsu . A good wizard. So we shall see. Personally I think an army of Skelton warriors sounds fantastic.

Erm... If you're concearned about being evil... Taking slaves might not be your cup of tea either.

Yes, there's much about the magic in Age of Conan that sort of breaks with the traditional Conan lore of Howard's stories... not that such abilities would be impossible, but they would never be so commonplace as in the MMO world.

There is actually a fair bit of sorcery and supernatural in Conan lore... but these were mostly encountered as something Conan had to either overcome or outsmart - it was never really somebody shooting lightning bolts or fireballs - sometimes it was an enchatment, a possessed animal, or a summoned demon creature. There may have been a sorceror that transformed himself into a gorilla, but I might not be remembering that tale 100% correctly off the top of my head.

Conan did not believe in magic, so encounters with sorcery were by people who were his enemies... mostly due to rescuing damsels in distress or stealing a sacred relic etc etc... Dark magic (generally considered evil) was more powerful and so more useful in battle (extra strength, power to weapons, weaken willpower of enemy), whereas the "good" light magic was used to heal and perform good deeds (it would only work if you lived a pure lifestyle, so you couldn't use this and also be an adept with the dark magic).

But exactly how sorcery will be implemented in Conan Exiles is yet to be seen... the livestream indicated you needed to become corrupted in body - so if you'd become useless in melee combat, that would actually open the door to using ranged attacks on enemies (but I'm just guessing).

Just a thought... seems like everything in this game is evil: kidnapping, torture, slavery, human sacrafice, cannibalism...

Would of loved to re-create my Bear Shaman here or my Priestess of Mitra :(

Nah, thats just nature. Nothing inherently evil about cannibalism. Its just something we as humans find extremely distasteful.

I played Age of Conan for a long time, it has plenty of combat magic.
My Necromancer was a blast to play, having up to 8 combat NPCs at the same time.

well in the books and even in AOC it is stated that sorcery is a dark and dangerious thing that given enough time will consume you and twist you. preistly magic such as healing was of the gods of good and considered something of a different nature. Sets preists were considered evil as for their worship of an evil god. though then conan became king he decreed all religions would be allowed be worshiped no marrter the god. but at the same time go killing or sacrificing innocents find yourself on the stocks. people do forget that even mirta was a god of war and of justice but also a nature deity of farming weather and luck. but in exiles your magic will be fulled by the darker things in the world. as most (99%) of magic used in conan was considered of the darker things of the world.
