Conan server on 4GB machine
Is anyone running a Conan server on a 4GB RAM machine?
Would it be enough for 2 players?

My dedicated server is running at 3.51 GB's of memory.

However, keep in mind, if you are running a game AND a server, you probably wont make it. The game takes up a couple of gigabytes of ram, and up to 5 due to the memory leak.

So if you've got a dedicated machine for the server... probably.

However, i recommend considering renting a dedicated server.

I rented one for just 17 bucks a month. Has enough slots for 10 people.

I would recommend at least 16G if you're playing on using a dedicated server machine for 2 people.

Depending on the patch, and how much crap you build, plan to scale up that memory, 'cause after awhile it's easily going to surpass 4 gigs.
My server hardware's still an AMD X6 (3.2Ghz) with 8GB memory and I can run an ARK server with 5-10 people, fine, and so far have been running 2-3 people (all that are playing so far) on this game without issue.

16GB?
http://conanexiles.gamepedia.com/Dedicated_server_system_requirements is recommending 8GB for 10 players.

To clarify: This is supposed to be a dedicated machine to run a dedicated server. There will never be more than 2 players. Renting a server for 17 bucks a month seems like a bad deal if I can just cobble together a small machine from spare parts. The only problem is that the board is limited to 4GB.

here we go bro this is an root server that is more than enough for your server needs and its only 8,99 Euro a month

Just to compare this root server setup can host an 70 slot server without problems at all for 14.99 Euro amonth :
https://www.netcup.eu/bestellen/produkt.php?produkt=1589

You can install on these machines whatever OS you want and you have full control over your server

Well lemme put it this way.

You can try it.

The server program is free. You can try it, see how it does. If it works, great, if not, then consider renting the server.

Probably the best course of action. Thanks.

4GB isn't much for the server. It will use 4.5GB after startup and only grows in size as time goes on. A 4GB system will technically only have 2-3GB free after the OS claims it's overhead. I would say an 8GB system is already the barest minimum you'd want to try without relying on virtual memory which is going to be a laggy experience for everyone since the server will stutter and be unresponsive momentarily whenever a RAM/pagefile swap is happening and with only 2-3GB of free memory, that is going to be happening really often.

It's less about the number of players and more about how many buildings are in the world. The size just keeps growing as people make changes to the world. I wouldn't say the player count doesn't matter though because multiple concurrent connections only make it worse. I've seen usage as high as 18GB with 30 or so players online.

For example, this is my server's usage right now with only 1 person online: https://imgur.com/a/dpjVC

That's already using all the RAM that an 8GB Win7 machine will have free.

I running a server for upwards of 10 players on a 6GB machine using Windows Vista 64. Yeah you read that right. It should be fine if you are using a more memory effecient OS.

If Fucnom would release a linux server version you would have no problems. Windows bloat is what eats up resources. Linux ark doesn't use tons of memory for server hosting.

My 15 slot server has never exceeded 4.5GB that I have seen with the avg between 3GB and 3.5GB. So 2 players MAY work. However, you have to take into account the OS usage and other small apps. If you strip that machine down to the very bare bones and it only runs exiles, you may be ok. There is no way you can play the game and host on 4GB FYI.

I'm running a dedicated server on a laptop with 4GB of RAM and I don't have any problems. The most I've had is 8 people and once and it runs fine. Have not had a crash or performance issues with the server since launch and it's up 24/7. I only pull it down for a minute when there's a new update.

NOTE: I don't use this machine to play on. The only thing running on it is the dedicated server.

My dedi server specs:
AMD 4300 @ 3.2ghz
Crucial 1333mhz non ECC ram (2x 4gb) (with pagefile)
Windows 10, pro x64
120GB SSD

Have no issues at all, with 5 players 20% memory usage and around 40% cpu.
