Do you have your keybindings switched around? Go into the Keybindings section, and see what "Toggle GUI" is set to.
It's ALT+Z
But that just brings up a menu with options for recording, etc. I want to clear the HUD to take screenshots.
You must have something else conflicting, like an overlay. That is not the behavior for that command.

Does anybody know how to do this? I can't believe there is absolutely no option to do so...

The most recent patch even mentions that alt-Z is broken, so that does suggest we just can't hide the HUD at present. Let's hope it gets fixed soon!
