Is there a better way to get Bark?
I collect bark with the pick on trees. It doesn't give hardly any. When I started using a steel pick it did not increase the harvest amount for bark at all.
Is that as intended?
Is there any better way?
I need it for the Tanner.
Thanks :steamhappy:

The "droprate" seems broken!
And yes, it doesn't matter what quality pick you use - you'll always get the same super low amount. Use stonepick only for bark and try the "small palmtrees".
After some testing these are the trees that give the most. They will yield around 3-5~ bark in general, with occasional 0.

Kill things there are some level 2, and 3s npcs near my base I find they drop them, like I kileld a camp of 8 and got 70 bark off them, and you can find them in the loot crates at camps as well much much faster then picking trees.

Oh yes, what Zalzany means is some npcs further north that can drop some bark on death. It won't really be viable for new players though as the northern area is quite dangerous.
If you don't have at least iron weapons/heavy hide armour you should probably keep to the small palm trees.

He has a steel pick he is not new player, newplayers don't need as much I can kill the things in the bunches with a simple iron sword in light armor. Takes a little work and I eat my cannibal spinach to heal up but I can wipe them out and get lots of bark, iron and coal I hanved used my pic in like 2 days since I sorted that out they even drop brimstone lol

Yes I'm aware of this. But I wrote it because other people who also need bark read the thread - I'm sure some of them haven't progressed that far yet :)

There is a better way. Farm the city in top left corner of map, you get plenty and tons of EXP. :)
Zalzany Feb 5, 2017 @ 8:11pm
Well yeah new palyers should know you use a pick on a tree, so what you getitng at? I mean I could farm some of these with bows if I had the sticks for arrows low level would be hard but I am saying once you need leather you at a level where you can make gear to kill them very shortly. I mean to make the tanner you whoping 3 levels form the iron sword at least I want to say 3 maybe its 4 or 5 because of a level cap, but its real close, and 20 bark is all you need to get that first pit of leather you need for your first metal gear.

Thanks for the replies. If/until they fix the harvest rate from trees I will try and hunt Npcs instead.

The low drop rate surprises me since every tree I've ever seen is covered with bark lol

Some of the trees look more "barky" than others. It would be nice if they yielded more. All in all, though, it isn't any more of a pain than getting iron or coal, in my experience.

A year later and after the game was officially released, bark is still awful lol. But pine trees give more than the tropical trees, at least. ~.~
Red River May 16, 2018 @ 6:34pm
ironically most bark comes from the dead trees which don't even supposed to have bark :)
Daedolon Jul 5, 2018 @ 11:04pm
Like red river said, the best way to get bark is dead trees. 5-15 bark per dead trees. Much better than healthy trees which is really random.
Steel pick seems to yield a little more but due to difficulty gatherng steel, it's still better to use stone pick.
