it's created when you use the altar, and i can't find in the character stats something about your implication with the god.
so maybe you need a certain number to create the next tier of altar ?

messing around in single player..the item used to summon the gods...has almost the same icon as the Zeal tokens so my guess is they are used in some conjunction to summon the gods once you enslave a preist of said god.

Pretty sure the zeal is the favor.

You need capture a high priest in order to summon an avatar.

it upgrades the alter, also used to summon the god i believe

You get 1 Zeal every time you craft something in the altar. The Zele's are one of the ingredient's needed to upgrade the altars. It's also used as an ingredient in the token you make to summon a god.
