server password not valid

Through the steam servers window I find the server of my friend and try to join it. I get prompted to put in the server password which I do (copy/paste or manual enter doesn't seem to make a difference). Conan starts up and it goes to the main menu screen. Normally it should go directly to "generating character" and prompt you in game.
When I go to play online and press the join server in steam again and entering the password I get a message box which titles "Coul not connect to server" and the message states "server password not valid". My friend and others can join his server without a problem but I get this message and I'm sure the password is correct, like I said: typed it manually, entered it through copy/paste, nothing seems to work.
Another peculiar thing is that on the steam server window I find his server without a problem although in the game I can't seem to find his server anywhere.
Anyone with the same problem and maybe has a solution?

I'm just trying to help people, my solution worked fine for me and my 3 friend. In addition, Elric's solution didn't work for me and actually it doesn't make any sense too.

Did you really think that I replied here for the topic owner? I found this topic while I was trying to solve the problem. I've posted my comment for people who are still struggling with the same issue in 2021.
