server password not valid

Through the steam servers window I find the server of my friend and try to join it. I get prompted to put in the server password which I do (copy/paste or manual enter doesn't seem to make a difference). Conan starts up and it goes to the main menu screen. Normally it should go directly to "generating character" and prompt you in game.
When I go to play online and press the join server in steam again and entering the password I get a message box which titles "Coul not connect to server" and the message states "server password not valid". My friend and others can join his server without a problem but I get this message and I'm sure the password is correct, like I said: typed it manually, entered it through copy/paste, nothing seems to work.
Another peculiar thing is that on the steam server window I find his server without a problem although in the game I can't seem to find his server anywhere.
Anyone with the same problem and maybe has a solution?

we are having the same problem. we now protect the server over night and open it up when the first one of us is online. Hope they fix this soon. Works no problem without password.

I have this exact same problem. 10+ people can access our private server, but myself and one other guy can't get on. We've tried logging onto the server from the in-game server browser, steam server list, and right clicking a friend who is on the server and choosing "Join Game". Ntohing works.... This is beyond frustrating!

It seems to be only a problem for password protected servers. I can join open servers without a problem, even servers with battleeye.
When I was in the game and looked for my friends server I could join it and it would take me to "Preparing character" screen but after a few seconds I was thrown back to the main menu. Server info on steam says I am playing on the server though.
Anyone with knowledge of this problem and a possible way how to fix this?

I am personally having the same issue with a couple servers, they all have passwords, I can't actually find the server at all through the game, and if I go through steam-servers I have to use another site to even find the server, even though I have 17 latency.

Nothing seems to work. I've validated files and even deleted & reinstalled the entire game. Same issue. There are 7 / 20 on one of our private servers, but I can't connect. Either I can an error stating that the password is invalid, or it sits at the startup screen and never goes any further.

I got it to work but don't know exactly what it was that did the trick for me. So I'll describe what I did and maybe it works for some of you as well.
1) Restart computer
2) Start up steam
3) Go to view -> servers -> find the server you want to join
4) Add serve to favorites
5) Go to favorites window, click on the server and click connect
6) Enter password
7) Let conan exiles start up, if you get the black screen bug just kill it through task manager and repeat step 5 and 6

By this point you should be in the main menu in stead of on the "preparing character" screen

8) Click on play online
9) Set filter on internet, combat mode on all, community on all, show invalid servers off, show full servers on
10) Let the search run until it's fully finished
11) Click on server name (to order them alphabetically)
12) Go to the server name field at the top and start typing your server name
13) When you located your server click on it and click on join at the bottom
14) Enter the server password and click join

Now you should go to the preparing character screen

Like I said this is what I did to get it working for me, and I don't even know if I did something special or not to get it working..

I got it to work, but I don't think steps 1-7 do anything. I've done all that 100 times and it did nothing. However, this I think worked:

8) Click on play online
9) Set filter on internet, combat mode on all, community on all, show invalid servers off, show full servers on
10) Let the search run until it's fully finished
11) Click on server name (to order them alphabetically)
12) Go to the server name field at the top and start typing your server name
13) When you located your server click on it and click on join at the bottom
14) Enter the server password and click join

Maybe something about letting the search run until finished, then typing in a couple letters of the server name? I mean, that's really the only thing I had not tried. Usually as soon as the server list came up I tried typing the first two letters. I let it run 10-15 minutes on multiple occasions and it never found the server. Joining through right clicking a friend who was on the server didn't work, and neither did the Steam server list. Ah well, I'm glad its working, so thanks for that!

I did as N0b0dyY0uKn0w and Elric42 suggested and actually got a loading screen. Always ends in a screen where I see two huge grey boxes ( probably the skybox with a single mountain looking buggy at the left side ).

Try activating BattleEye in server by "IsBattlEyeEnabled=True" in ServerSettings.ini file.
