How to get coal?

I been asking ingame over and over but noone seems to know. The only answer I got was "you have to mine it on the black stones" but after 11 hours ingame all I find is sand stones

Coal ... Where Is It?

I cannot seem to find coal anywhere. Has anyone stumbled across it? Need it to fuel my blacksmithy and have had no luck whatsoever finding any or figuring out a way to manufacture it.

Good question, I only found rocks and iron rocks, no coal tho. Wonder if it's underground in the corruption caves.

I found some, north-east part of the map, around big black hand statue.

There are coal nodes near the center of the map, only ones I know of at this point but haven't been around the whole map yet

To the middle and to the east there is some coal nodes. They ran past that area when going to the sinkhole during Stream 5.

Map is under the M key. In the green area north of the initial spawn point, you'll see four islands: two west of the twin monuments, two east of it. The third island is your point of reference: if you go directly north from the eastern end of it, there's a large slope between a tall mountain on the eastern side of it and a smaller one west of it. On the upper, northern end of this slope, you should find a couple of iron rocks in the middle and some coal rocks on the eastern side, against the tall mountain. Watch out for crocs on the shore, rhinos on the lower end of the slope, spiders on the upper end of the slope and hyenas every-frickin-where.

Tip for early levels: use wood in your furnace for fuel until you get coal. Also, after you get coal, you can use it in campfires instead of wood.

Coal can also be looted off of human npcs.

I've got lots of coal around the Southern Aqueduct, the cliffs near The Pit, The Oasis across the river from the pit. If you can't find it, you're not looking hard enough. I can't speak for the western side of the map, but the northeastern and central map is filthy with coal.

But.....Can you make your own Coal?
