Autism is a medical condition. You can't help being autistic. Gay people are disgusting, they were not born gay, that was a (poor) choice that they made. Drunks are disgusting, you aren't born drunk. Fat people are disgusting, you aren't just "a large person". Being fat isn't a real medical condition, its what doctors tell fat people so they feel better about eating 4 Big Macs every other day. You can lose weight. Autism is a disability, like being blind. You can't help it, and it keeps you from learning properly.
