TF2 NATIVE VR MODE FIX (2023 UPDATED)

as some of you may know tf2 had a vr demo mode for the original oculus rift which was long ago discontinued, but the coding is still within the game and can still be force enable by doing those step below

YOU NEED A HTC VIVE or other steamvr headset that use a similar native resolution of the original vive, trying to use something more higher resolution like a index or oculus will result in crosseye display.

DOES NO LONGER WORK PROPERLY ON OCULUS RIFT HARDWARE DUE TO CHANGE IN OCULUS RENDERING DRIVERS IN 2017


First

Do these thing beforehand.

-disable theatermode
- type -vr in tf2 launch option
-disable direct mode in steamvr developer setting

Now the hard part. (Having a secondary monitor help alot)
I did not test it without a secondary monitor

-Move your steamvr setting window and a opened steam window in your secondary monitor ( to launch the game and be able to disable direct mode later)

- go into window display setting and set the htc vive as your primary monitor (may need a window restart)

-launch the game

- see if you can get your cursor to the game if not restart the game and if it still doesnt restart your entire pc

Once you are done playing you can simply remove -vr in the launch option, change your primary monitor back and activate direct mode

LIST OF ISSUE AND POTENTIAL FIX FOR THEM (what i found so far...)

-unable to have mouse cursor in the game: restart game or window(yes really)

-no display when booting up your pc: since the headset is now your primary monitor your login screen is in the headset, just unplug the headset before starting your pc if you forgot to enable direct mode

-missing hud element : nothing you can do about that its just broken sometime it work sometime it doesnt

- unable to change weapons: nothing you can do about that

-more to come if i find any

restart the game or like i said litteraly restart your pc if you cant get focus

also try moving your cursor around everywhere the game is outside of of your screen like a secondary monitor so you gotta move the cursor there

I had to restart SteamVR and it started working again, thanks!

open steamvr go to the drop down menu and go to developers settings

i dont know the reason but usualy its because your headset native resolution is different than the game was coded for. the headset needs to be at the same resolution as the original Htc vive.

(edit) done some ressearch and i found out that the driver from oculus had some feature that got removed that tf2 still used, so the oculus rift kinda display improperly with TF2 now
