Team Fortress 2
DPS calculation
can someone do the dps calculation (or link me to one) of engie vs tank.

situation 1:
max wrench attack on tank + auto fire sentry on tank (no jag obviously though if you want to do the calc for using jag please do so :) )
and maybe factor in random krit damage? idk.

situation 2:
wrangle tank.

before someone just blankly says one is better than other please have a bit of data

thanks all :)

You could test this yourself ingame.

Start up a decoy game.
sv_cheats 1
tf_mvm_jump_to_wave 3 (one single tank wave)
currency_give 9999
god

I do most of my testing on this wave.

Calculation will never be as valid as ingame proof soo here it is -

Max wrench only

Max wrench and auto fire
It never got into its bomb deployment animation

Max wrench and Max firing speed auto
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=146166184

Wrangler with no firing speed upgrades
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=146166243

Wrangler with max firing speed
Half way though bomb deployment animation
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=146166283

Loadout I used was Rescue ranger, wrangler and maxed stock wrench
All the testing was pretty much done with maximum damage output and as you can see, max wrench and firing speed makes a huge difference compared to the others.

Another useful (and legal) command for helping gauge DPS is the command
"hud_combattext_batching 1". This will, if you have active damage text turned on, automatically group damage together into a single cumulative number instead of a single number for each hit.
This doesn't require any cheats, so for anyone who plays heavy/pyro it's heavily recommended.

Thanks both. so from what you saw exhale the dps in using wrench + auto fire and wrangle was about same? I will prob test this soon with the commands up top thanks.

I had maxed out wrench in both wrench + auto fire and wrangle. Max wrench + no firing speed upgrades does more damage than wrangling with max firing speed.
Notice that in "Max wrench and Max firing speed auto" that the tank only just got past the bridge.

sorry for bumping up old thread but I found this from google and i had to respond. as a frequent player on expert mvm, autofiring+wrenching tank tactic should be used not because it can potentially outdamge wrangler, but because autofiring sentry prioritizes robots over tank. it'll kill bots that follow directly behind the tank(and if there aren't any bots, it'll still target the tank), making it much safer for engi and pyro and any other classes trying to attack the tank.

Merasmus!

On the other hand I can finally redirect noobs to this thread when they complain why I wrench a tank (with max attack speed) while the sentry is firing at it instead of using the wrangler. Good to know I'm doing at least one thing right in Mann Up.

I know im late but I have already made a guide for something like this.

If you ever get stuck on a step or have a problem with the guide just let me know.

Should also mention that there is damage fall off from the sentries rockets, the closer that you are to the enemy will do more damage than being by your sentry.

I love the almost scientific approach to the discussion and the great research by hacked exhale. Now, it is different so much so that I have stopped reading posts from people. A lot of these discussions are so myopic and so focused on minor benefits with certain situations. I will admit that the kritz vs (x) medigun debate is still debatable but I am looking for discussions based numbers. All I can do right now is keep track of cap points lost, game time and average scores.
