What is MvM?
I know it stands for Mann. vs Machine, I get that, but I have questions regarding it:

Are Tour of Duty tickets required to play any MvM servers? I would really like to learn how MvM works.

I've never done it before, so this could be exciting.

You only need tickets to play on official servers. You can play on community servers for free, but the quality of the server and players is pretty much a crapshoot. Then again, that can also make it a good place to learn and mess around, since players in community servers generally don't seem to give much of a ♥♥♥♥ how bad the team is sucking.

For Mann up mode and chance for loot, yes, you'll need a ticket per mission. To play for free you can try BootCamp, but the quality of the servers can vary a lot. You'll encounter server with too many plugins (making the server laggy), 10 people teams, playing as a robot, unlimited ammo/cash, custom servers, etc. On a rare chance you'll find a vanilla MvM server.

But you can easily find one on the servers tab, on map typing mvm_ and join a x/6 server (x/7 if they have replay bot).

there are two forms of MvM boot camp is free to anyone I suggest starting there to get a feel for things

the second mode is called Mann up mode and requries a ticket to play but completing a mann up tour always scores you loot some items are mann up only such as robo hats and austilum weapons (the weapons are dropped only in two cities )

I HIGHLY advise boot camp first there are Weapons that work differently in MvM and the abiltiy to upgrade stats makes it different than other modes
as well Mann up mode players tend to be less welcoming to new players and can be quite hostile if you don't know what you are doing
