Team Fortress 2
Most useless upgrades in MvM.
Here is a list of upgrades I find pretty useless in MvM, and are a waste of credits if you ask me, as the rest are just better.

Knockback Rage (Heavy) - if you need something knocked back, there's this cool thing called AIRBLAST that Pyros have.

Crits on Kill (Spy) - this is mostly useless because of how robots prioritize Spies over any other class. After getting a backstab or a few, you need to cloak, disguise, or run off immediately before you get killed. If you try and stay to utilize the crits, you will die.

Metal Regen (Engineer) - such a small amount of metal every few seconds. Just go use a dispenser or find an ammo pickup???

Shield Recharge (Demoman) - Demoknight isn't quite the best thing in MvM, but it can work. But when it does, it's easily done WITHOUT this upgrade.

Damage (Soldier and Demoman with Rocket/Sticky Jumper) - ah yes, let's give a bonus percentage to damage to a weapon that DOES NO DAMAGE.

Disposable Sentry (Engineer) - this puny little thing with only 100 health which you can't even repair or reload. To be honest, it would be okay if you could repair and reload it. But no, you have to WAIT FOR IT TO GET DESTROYED and place it again.

Jump Height (All) - I don't think I even need to say why this sucks.

On top of all that, there's quite a few weapons which are not even worth upgrading to begin with, such as the shotguns for Soldier, Pyro, and Heavy, the 2 SMGs for Sniper, Spy and Medic's primary weapons (except Mad Milk Syringes, which is okay,) any Engineer primary and secondary except the Widowmaker, any Lunch Box item, and basically any melee weapon except those of Spy, Engineer, Sniper, and Demoknight.

Do you have any more to add to this list? And do you disagree with any? If so, why?

Jump Height is good. Depending on the map it might open new routes, and it always helps in evading blast damage. It's super cheap, too. The rest is... um... Accurate, I guess, but not always for the reasons you say.
In defense of Disposable Sentry: It's basically a damage upgrade for Engineer. You shouldn't really care that you have to replace it regularly, as it's barely any effort. It's still hella expensive though, and if anyone buys it, it's a common indicator of their MvM knowledge. It's best suited for the endgame.

Jump height has a few niche applications. One that I can think of is being able to jump to the upper part of Mannhattan with the barrel and a Dispenser. Of course, there's also godspots that are only reachable via jump height. Heavy might enjoy being able to jump over a fence instead of having to walk around it (especially if it's a huge shortcut), as would any class. Most importantly, it's very cheap.
EDIT: Pyro can Phlog cancel by jumping on giants if you buy jump height. Another good utility for this upgrade.

As for other useless upgrades:
  • Attack speed on the Fan O'War: I know it's among the "Why would you upgrade it" items, but it has become a running theme that new MvM players think Scout has no primary, which is why it deserves a special mention.
  • Afterburn duration: It's broken as far as I know, and if it's not, it's not really worth it anyway. Afterburn damage is slightly excused for at least being a +2 DPS increase (what a value), but also kinda useless.
  • Any broken upgrade is also a waste of money for obvious reasons. Things like the minigun's second attack speed upgrade (third for Tomislav I think) or the third point in Sentry firing speed, and the second point as well if you're not using the Wrangler.
  • Clip size for weapons that don't reload all at once: Not useless, just wasteful to upgrade early. It's more of an honorable mention.
  • Health on kill for Scatterguns: It never made a big difference whether I upgraded it or not. I guess it's not entirely useless, but it has been for me.
  • Additional Rocket Specialist points: It only increases blast radius and projectile speed. Not really worth it.

These are the ones that come to my mind.

You could buy Disposable Sentry, or you could invest more into yourself and your gun and be badass as Hell.

You can upgrade clip early if you want to be better at bursting down Giants and worse at overall DPS.

That's what I usually do. I just sometimes happen to have spare money for this upgrade.

Point taken. Still not sure if I would ever consider it though, when there are other things to upgrade first.

Is heavy's destroy projectiles any good? I know there's some people who say they rely on it for some missions but I swear it doesn't do anything whenever I've tried to use it.

I didn't really think about that one but now that you mention it yeah it's not that great. Medic has a shield lol. Just get behind that.

I always heard that you either upgrade both points, or you don't bother. I'm in the latter category. I think it's alright, but very much optional.

Something that I also just remembered from this guide is that the Short Circuit has firing speed upgrades. That only affect the primary fire.

It can be good, but I don't like it. The further you are from the projectiles the better it is at destroying them, but the further you are the less damage you're dealing so the longer the robot stays alive shooting those projectiles in the first place. It also does literally nothing against any robots that don't use projectiles like Scout & Heavy bots.

You definitely should explain why you consider greatly improved mobility bad for all classes.

For $100 each no less. I've been critical about upgrading movement on Scout in the past, but I've seriously come around on Jump height. It slots into my playstyle of a more grounded speedster great since it doesn't affect my aim that often and it just makes traversing some maps so much easier. Like yeah, you can reach some random spots you couldn't before, but even just taking some shortcuts can be a lifesaver.

To say nothing of it's utility on Spy, Pyro, Engineer... Heck, Soldier and Heavy even.

The real reason is just because you're better off spending money on other upgrades.
