What is scout's best primary to help with tank?
Yes, I know the obvious - it isn't scout's main job to destroy tanks. But in 666, for example, scout can deal a ton of damage on tanks while still picking up money, milking & marking giants, etc. I usually go for shortstop since, upgraded, it has a great clip size while also reloading the entire clip at once. This works really great with crit canteens, allowing me to shoot ~18 times with crits before the canteen runs out. I've managed to deal the second highest tank damage several times, losing only to soldier or pyro - which is really helpful in waves with a lot of tanks. Coal Town also has a lot of tanks on expert, but you can't afford crit canteens on that difficulty so easily. So I'm wondering:

What is scout's highest tank damage output with crits? What about without crits?

nothing, just stick to stock imo.

Soda popper. Slowly below Shortstop in terms of DPS, but cheaper to max out, which makes it better on other non-Nightmare maps. Get clip size and Damage. Get canteens past maxing it out.

Also thanks, this is coherent with the spreadsheet Exhale posted. I was wondering about soda popper, it really seemed to have nice DPS.

I'd use krit-a-kola and stock (for those damages)

Shortstop is the best about non-critted DPS, but what about ammo consumption? Both shortstop and FaN have 80 shells, but FaN can deal 210 damage with one shot and shortstop only 140. Does it mean scout will spend his ammo too fast with shortstop and have to waste time for finding ammo boxes?
Also remember crit-a-cola will not help you too much with tankbusting, it will increase DPS only on 10-15 units or even not increase at all, like with fully upgraded shortstop (420 without cola and same 420 with).

Crit-a-Cola does help with ammo efficiency though.

"Yes, I know the obvious - it isn't scout's main job to destroy tanks."

Would happily have a second scout in team that goes full damage to kill the tank, extra distraction, milk and maybe marks from sandman.

Both with and without crits his damage is amazing with shooting and reloading speed alone, when damage is added he just gonna rekt that tank possibly faster than even beggars soldier (personaly using stock but shortstop yes, is powerfull since it reloads entire clip, the only problem with it is it increases push force which is annoying when gathering money)

Shortstop used to be a lot better for MvM when it had the extra health. I'd easily get to 900+ HP back then, which used to compensate for its extra knockback. I think this is the main reason I still to this day like it, it's just an old habit. Still, a pretty nice damage on the tank, though.

Interesting point on having that second scout. I've never tried it, but it sounds fun.

I'm curious about you guys' opinion on the crit-a-cola. It's been a habit to use the mad milk back when medic wasn't viable in MvM, but now that we have shield and extra health, is it viable to switch from milk to crit a cola? Have you guys experienced that?

No weapon slot matters on scout so yes. Only really good on tanks since FoW and sandman exists.

Just eqiup Mad Milk, but queue crita-cola to swap once you respawn. Have the medic revive you as the tank comes out. or just kill yourself there because they'll prob revive you anyways. Then when you spawn, queue up mad milk to switch when you respawn again.

Hey beardoof, here's an older thread comparing scattergun/soda popper/shortstop. There's been a few updates since, but pretty sure the DPS didn't get affected.

Soda Popper is king.
Stock scattergun gets best use of crits canteen or crit-a-cola (does most damage within that period of crit-effect)

Unless, you're Span or myself and don't bother with resistances at all and just dodge everything lmao
