ive never really UNDERSTOOD salvaged crates

have they been dropping?
do they drop right now?
have they dropped before, but you can never find them as drops again?
are they normal crates, just a lot more rare?

can somebody please explain

I heard someone say that when someone deletes or opens a crate, someone somewhere might get a salvaged crate. Maybe that's completely false, though.

They are as rare as hat drops, which are pretty rare.

Then explain to me why I got 2 hat drops in a single day(A Killer Exclusive and a Noh Mercy) and I've never even once gotten a salvaged crate.

I've deleted tons of crates... lol maybe I should have looked more but I didnt realize some were valuable. But I hate to spend really money on hat unless I really really want a certain one.

30 was dropping, not anymore
40 is -supposedly- still dropping, and -once again, supposedly- will stop dropping once game introduces crate 50. there are some questioning whether 50 will be salvaged or not, but i think valve skipping 50 and releasing 51 as eerie crate confirms that 50 will be a salvaged crate.

yes, they are normal crates, just a lot more rare.
