TF2 freezes on retrieving server info
Hey all,

I'm now typing this out out of desperation as I've been trying to solve this issue for the past 3 months or so. My TF2 will freeze/crash/hang as soon as it hits the "retrieving server info" stage of connecting to a server.

I have tried the following with NO RESULTS:

1) Connect directly to modem instead of going through a router
2) Turning off anti-virus/firewall
3) deleting clientregistry.blob
4) verifying game files (done this like 5000x times)
5) uninstall/reinstall TF2 (done 3 times lol)

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? THANKS!!

I have this problem, and sadly, I haven't found a way to fix it.
I just wait until it unfreezes and keeps loading.

I'll post back here if I find a ffix for it.

Thanks Toros - how long do you have to wait until it continues to load? I've waited up to 20 minutes before and it does not move, and even task manager shoes it as "not responding"

I dont know, have you thought about your computer over-heating or not getting enough "sleep"?

my TF2 doesn`t respond when it says "sending client info"

Nobody knows a solution? My temps are good (running a Noctua D14) so I don't think overheating is a problem..

U have to wait about 5-10 mins so just wait and see if it works

Hey demoknights,

I've (literally) waited up to 20 minutes before and the bar doesn't move. Task manager also shows TF2 as not responding so I think it's legit frozen/crashed. Any other suggestions?

Oh, good, I'm not alone in this.

I have ROUGHLY the same problem, my difference is my game doesn't freeze and allows me to cancel. MvM doesn't search right either, but Offline Practice kills the .exe

Judging by most of these responses, it happens to a lot of us. My PC is really old, I just wait around for a few minutes and it eventually loads.

Google searches show that a good number of us are having these problems with slight differences (some just have to wait and it'll continue to load, some are like me and hard frozen, some are able to fix it with any one of the solutions I tried, etc etc).

To risk coming off as a douchebag I don't think it's cause my PC is old (i7 Bloomfield, GTX460 sli, etc etc).. I've been playing TF2 for years and this just started happening one day WTF!!!

For me, it has a pause there. It's not "freezing." It's just doing as it says it's doing. Maybe it does kinda freeze. But just give it some time, and it'l be over. Maybe. Anyway, to close TF2 manually, you should instead close the process, not the TF2 window.

I often have the same problem. Sometimes hitting cancel and trying to connect again works for me. The weird thing is, when I have to download something while the server connects (maps, materials, etc.) the server connects when the download is done, every single time

It happens to EVERYONE.

If you can actually click cancel while the "Retrieving Server Info" is on, then it's not working.

It's just how the game works.
