Team Fortress 2
How to backstab as spy?
I cloak and go behind someone, not even being behind, I can't use my knife as cloaked.
THen when I get off cloak, it takes 5 seconds AND THEN i can stab.
Am i doing something wrong, like seriously wtf, everyone cloaks and backstabs me, but when I try to do it, my knife doesn't do anything while i'm cloaked, and it takes 5 seconds to get out of cloak to stab??!?!? I can't find this answer

1. You can't attack when cloaked

you cant use your knife as cloaked... and you can only stab with the knife when you are completely uncloaked. when your uncloaking you cannot stab. or that would be op. "OMG THERES AN INVISIBLE PERSON WE CANT SEE RUNNING AROUND GETTING ALL THE AMMO FOREVER CLOAKED AND KILLING US ALL"

Oh, I see then, that clears up so much lmao.
I still don't understand how spies seem to backstab me when invisible, but oh well.
Thank you :)
You need to use your disguise. It your 4 weapon, disguse as one of enemy team, then proceed to backstab.

These are the kind of new players I like. The kind that are willing to learn and improve.
It doesn't matter what skill level they start at, becuase the skill level they can end at is... :)

Remember that here is 3 different cloaking devices, stock, Cloak and Dagger, and Dead Ringer.
You might know how stock cloakin device works but C&D´s meter decrease when spy is moving while cloaked and increase when staying still, so he can actually be forever invicible, of course he can´t kill anyone while cloaked.

Dead Ringer is pretty tricky. You can´t cloak normal way, but when you get hurt while Dead Ringer is active, you will become invisible immediatelly and leave fake corpse, seems like you´re dead, but you´re not. Also you get 90% less damage while using cloaked so you can survive even head shots or backstabs (I read somewhere you can even survive a train). But remember, when cloak meter depletes completely or manually decloakes, here will be a loud sound so it will be easily noticed. If spy is disguised as own team member (yes, spies can do that) they leave fake body which looks like someone else as spy, so you dont even know you have hurt a spy!!!

This is not true, if the enemy player has damage numbers and/or customized hit sounds turned on. You can immediately tell you "killed" a spy, since that "heavy" died after taking only 8 damage... Personally, I avoid the dead ringer unless I'm trolling anyway, since using it's cloak means you HAVE to alert the enemy team to your presence, since disguises alone will rarely get you behind enemy lines. As soon as everyone figures out you are using the dead ringer (about 0.01 seconds after the ridiculously loud decloak sound) they will simply spy-check the area after you "die", rendering it useless for anything but retreating towards friendly lines.

Of course you don´t have to use it immediatelly, and why Spy should disguise as Heavy?

The lowest health class that is constantly seen on the front lines is the pyro. 175 health. In order to die convincingly you still need to sacrifice most, if not nearly all, of your healthbar. Especially if an enemy spy/solemn vow medic was seeing your EXACT simulated health at the time of the kill. The easiest way to fake a friendly death is allowing yourself to be "headshot" while disguised as a heavy that hasn't yet reached the front lines, but this usually means not reaching your target and/or a safe place to decloak before it runs out. I've experimented with it, it usually isn't as useful as the other two watches unless you're playing as Dr. Enforcicle, which isn't really like playing a "spy" at all. Anyways, If this conversation is continued, we should do it in a different thread, since we answered the poster's questions about spying already.

OK, you know more about it than me, I don´t use it much anyway. But one thing is sure, THAT SPY IS NOT DEAD SPY!!!
