Vintage and Genuine weapons/hats explained.
Have you ever seen a TF2 player with a Vintage or Genuine weapon or hat and wondered here he/she got them, how you can get one, and what they do? I am here to explain that.

Both "Vintage" and "Genuine" are item qualities for your TF2 items. This means that they appear before the items name and they will be a certain color. Vintages will appear as a deep blue text while Genuines will appear as an olive green.

But what do they do you ask? Nothing. There just more valuable and have a higher trading value. This is because they are both limited edition items.

WHAT VINTAGES ARE:
Vintages are items that were crafted before the March 15, 2011 patch Meaning if you crafted an weapon or hat before 3/15/11, after the update it was automatically upgraded to Vintage quality. This is because after the patch, crafting recipees became cheaper, and Valve wanted to reward those that crafted before the update.

WHAT GENUINES ARE:
Genuines are promotional items given to those who purchased a certain Steam game at a certain time. Meaning if you preordered a game or bought it when it first came out, Valve would simply give you a Genuine item the next time you played TF2.

I hope you found this information useful. I got if from the TF2 wiki.

September 30, 2010 Patch (Mann-Conomy Update)
[Undocumented] Added Vintage quality.
Vintage Quality items were also made during the Mannconomy update. All weapons and hats in existance at that time were upgraded to Vintage quality to show that they were around before they were buyable/tradable/craftable. Items were also, for a while, given to players in Vintage Quality if the player had their account hijacked and their items stolen. This was abuused quite a lot, however, and the practice has been discontinued.
