Of course I tried.
Same effect.
:(
So, I have to turn around?
I've been observing experts and (it seems) none of them do that.
the best can jump over the rocket before it inpacts, if you can't do that turning around will work just fine
kk. tnx a lot.
I just hold S and rocket jump and then spin around in mid air.... cause I suck
Do not hold down W, it's better and faster to let the explosion push you forward.
If there is an object facing your back shoot that instead, it'll send you farther horizontally.
And like somebody said, you can jump over the rocket to send you both upward and forward.
It works, thanks.
:)
Walk towards a direction about 45 degrees to the right of where you want to land;
in one quick movement switch from W to a strafe key (preferably A if using the standard Rocket Launchers) while rotating 90 degrees (preferably to the right) and aiming towards the ground - if done properly you should be strafing in the same direction as you were originally walking; now in quick succession press-and-hold crouch, then fire the rocket at the ground, then hit jump key;
lastly, in a smooth motion, move your mouse in the same direction as you are strafing (preferably Left) in order to accelerate your movement. Once airborne combine strafing with *turning your mouse smoothly in the same direction you are strafing* to keep your momentum up and to finely control your movement in the air.
Things to remember:
Hitting W or S will mess up your jump - you only use W for easy-mode wall-jumps, or to quickly burn off height if you want to land on someone with maxmum velocity using Mantreads.
Holding Crouch gives you maximum "thrust"; but will typically cause you more fall damage - omit the crouch if you want to travel less distance, keep it pressed for most air-control.
Most Rocket Launchers are mounted on the Soldier's right shoulder, and thus the projectile emerges off-centre - using the Original will make it easier to strage/turn to the right due to its central position.
The angle off "dead below" you have when you fire the rocket will determine your trajectory - you can sacrifice verticle distance for horizontal speed, but generally you won't make much extra distance that way.
If you target the base of a wall so you get the explosion to come from both the floor and the wall, you can go further.
