Item drop issue..?
EDIT: This section will be updated over time when multiple solutions to fix the problem are discovered.

Solution #1: Setting your Steam default language + Game language to English seems to work out well.

Solution #2: Valve already mentionned that idling no longer works. (In case you're coming to this thread and idling)

So it's been about a week or two (if not, then longer for sure.) that I no longer get any item drops, and I seriously don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I've tried to look for as much sources as I can that could help me, but I can't seem to find any.

And for your info, I do NOT idle for item drops (But I do sometimes leave the game on the main menu while forgetting to close my game. I'm having doubts it creates some sort of conflict with the item drop system)

I've looked to see if it was caused by an activity that is unacceptable from the new item drop system:

-Is connected to a VAC secured server.
All the servers i usually go on is secured by VAC.

-Is responding to in-game drop notifications while not utilizing external programs to do so.
I honestly have no idea how I could ever use a program to influence item drops.

-Is running only one instance of the game.
"Check"

-Is not in textmode.
I'm not even sure to know what textmode is.

Total of hours played by now: 637 hrs.

My Steamrep is normal,
My trade status is Ok.
My VAC status is Ok.
And my reputation is Ok.

If you have any idea why am I not able to receive any item drops, then I'd appreaciate you leave a message and give me some info/tips on what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,
- BlueChoco

I only seem to get 2 or 3 drops a week when I play, and many other people are complaining of similar issues to yours. I don't know what's wrong, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the drop system itself, not the players.

Weird enough, I've also seen a lot of my F2P friends get a lot of great items in the past few days, like a couple of paints and meet the medic taunts.

Someone mentioned valve 'nerfing' drop rates. I have yet to confirm this but that's an idea. (OMG paint and TAUNTS?? Lucky F2P friends *pout*)

I found the solution! For some reasons, you cannot receive any item drops if your Steam + TF2 isn't set on the English language.

It seems like Valve is giving up on other languages for TF2.

Hmm, I wonder if the devs know of this. You should report it to Steam Support.

Seriously?! I had some drops after the update, but I stopped receiving them for a week or so, even a bit more I think... I guess I will just try and see if something changes...

How much hours do you play per day?

What are you basing this on that is confirmed and reproducible?

================================

I had this problem for a week or two, I started 2 and participated in several other discussions about it. Finally, out of nowhere, it just stopped. Well, it started actually, dropping items again. I went 1 week drop-window without items and the second one started late.

I did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary to cause the drops to stop, nor did I do anything out of the ordinary later on to explain why they started again during the next cycle. I wish I had a solution I could explain to you but I don't =/

My drops, and the drops of other players just kinda continued as normal one day, you might simply have to wait for that to happen.

Im not getting as many drops as usual now that you mention it :S

The drop system was patched to prevent idling about a month ago, this might be why you aren't getting 'as many' items.

The thing is no one here is idling, at least I'm not. I got my normal drop amount this week, but the last 2 weeks I have been getting much less than usual, about 3 or 4 items rather than the 6 to 8 I normally get. Maybe this is intentional, it could be leading up to a new update, or it could be a bug in the drop system that was introduced when it was patched.

Hey I have changed my Steam and TF2 language to English and it's apparently working(played a couple hours and got 3 drops). If your language is already English then I have no idea.

I think the reason of that being that since steampipe was introduced (which does not appear to be multilingual compatible), The new recent items (for example, the Robocrate items and the cooler crate items) Are not translated into different languages other than english.)

I think the reason why Drops aren't working if your Steam software isn't set on English is because Valve's currently working on the item drop, and haven't made a compatible version for other languages yet.

I don't know how to solve this problem but don't worry, the langague CHANGE NOTHING !
My Steam is in French, my Tf2 is in French and I still drop item.
