i played a 2fort map but it was nighttime, no it wasnt an official map for any noobs who are wondering, but it totaly changed the gameplay, it was really easy for pyros to be sneaky, spies didnt even need to disquise, and engies could basicaly have invisible sentries.
I don't see the point of having the day and night cycle as...
1) It's unnecessary.
2) If it existed, then less players would be playing in night and people would be complaining in the TF2 Disscussions and forums regarding how certain classes are less useful in night.
3) If it existed, then it may cause lag and if it does severe lag to some people in general, then Valve may change the system requirements and people would complain once again in the Discussions/Forums.
It can be a good idea but it is WAY too late to add the idea now.

Oh i just discovered a map that has a day and night cycle.

As you see the day and night cycle looks quite amazing (something that i honestly never thought i would see in a TF2 map) and it doesn't lags at all, another cool thing is that it also rains.

Adding a day and night cycle would make tf2 more harder to install. Like a few people above have said Spy has a great advantage and it would be unfair. Imagine 8 saharan spies in each team. Chaos.
But they removed the set...
Its still a great combo.

In all srsness, it would be hard to implement. A lot of maps have unique colors for their environment lighting so they'd manually require custom lighting at every hour of the day or so (which alone wouldn't be worth the effort), and a lot just aren't set up for night (lack of lights) or vice versa (koth_king at day, could you imagine?). Some servers do it, it is possible with sourcemod (I know a plugin did do it, you could mod that, but I'm not sure where it is now or if it still even functions). EDIT: and of course a .bsp for the different times of day is an option, if you want to bother with decompiling maps only to recompile them multiple times by changing some of the values on one singe entity.

Don't forget the pyrovision day-and-night cycle..

This map is a great example of day and night cycle and its awesome :D
But I thought all gamers cared about these games were more graphical looks rather then balancing and gameplay? This would be implemented.

People who care about graphics only are not gamers, they're just graphical admirers..

Nah, Team fortress doesn't need night, it's useless, and TF2 doesn't need useless things and SHUT UP HATS ARE USEFUL TO DIFERENTIATE THE SKILL OF PLAYERS.

not always .-.
a day/night cycle would just annoy anyone trying to actually play the game. most graphical enhancements in games these days (bloom, motion blur, dof) serve only to detract from the gameplay by making it harder to see. time of day cycles would be no different.
and it would require every map to be significantly redesigned. which isn't gonna happen.

Whats up with all these people saying spies are too hard to kill and stuff? Think of the pyro if a corpse on fire was near the spy the spy would be easier to see. I am guessing the body would glow and also anything else on fire will glow and festive lights would look alot cooler. Not to mention the muzzle flash. If a rage heavy is walking around spraying bullets the muzzle flash would give away spies locations

This will make more people to want festives! :D
