Team Fortress 2
Need Help Installing A Mod
Hello Team Fortress Community. I need your help if you don't mind. Okay, so there's this mod I found on the internet (This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWeCx-RCcB8) that I'd like to download and install to Team Fortress 2. Normally I install mods without a problem but this one is being an issue.

When I downloaded the mod I installed it like any other mod but when I started up the game and went to the Spy loadout that the mod is for instead of getting the character model I wanted in the video the spy's suit just changed colors. I've come across many gamers who were able to download and install this mod no problem but I'm one of the unlucky one's who installed this mode and it never worked.

Now I'm not very computer savvy so anyone who can help me install this mod with ease I'd be forever thankful.

If you were using /steamapps/username/team fortress 2/tf/ as the place to put your /materials/ and /models/ and all those folders, the new location since steampipe is /steamapps/common/team fortress 2/tf/custom/chrysalis_skin/. The "chrysalis_skin" can be named whatever, but there needs to be exactly one folder in between /custom/ and /materials/ (or whatever of those that the mod throws in, materials should be there though).

Forgive me but I don't follow. This is the path I took: Program Files (86x) / steam / steamapps / common / Team Fortress 2 / tf / custom / My Mods.

The my mods folder is where I dump all my mods. I put the modles and materials folder that come with this mod in that folder named my mods. So what did I do wrong at this point? Sorry for making you explain to me again.

also it may be possible that you have a spy model mod already in effect, in which case this new mod is being overwritten by the existing one

That's a very smart idea but no, my spy is mod free. The only mods my spy has are to his weapons. Those don't have anything to do with the actual spy character I think. So again, i install this mod and the spy's suit just changes to purple and green.

Well then it seems like everything should be fine on that side of things, what does the current folders inside that look like? No .vpk's and only folders like /materials/ and /models/ and things like that, nothing too out of place?

Well that sounds like you just installed the /materials/ and not the /models/ folder correctly.

I do have VPK files but their outside the My Mods folder. Any mod that has multiple folders goes inside the My Mods folder. Do you think I should clear out anything?

I dropped both the materials and modles folder in the my mods folder.

Just list them off, from the sounds of it everything's fine, seems like the only cause would be a silly mistake.

I have a mountain of VPK files and it would take me a while to write them all down but I have audio, weapon, skin, particle effect, user interface, heads up display, and siren VPK files installed into TF2. In the my mods folder I have materials, media, models, scripts, and a sounds folder.

when I drop the materials and models folders from the mod i downloaded into the My Mods folder the two folders automaticly go into the materials and modles folders that are already inside the my mod folder.

I'll be honest now, I have no clue. It might be a constraint with too many mods, no clue, you could try to spare a few mods for the time being to see if that works. A reinstall of your mod might do it, or instead of placing it into /My Mods/ try a new folder in custom. Just try anything you can.

I had a feeling we'd hit a wall with this issue. Thank you anyway. I'll do my best to solve this if I can.

I can prolly help you troubleshoot stuff, but it would be quicker to add me rather than waiting to hear back via the discussion board
