Completely pointless, you can just buy a key and get 3 ref 1 rec for it.

You can already sell metal. As mentioned above, just think outside the box a little. Trade someone your metal for a key. Then sell the key on the market. Same difference. Selling scrap is a bad idea because it would be far too easy to reach the 200 items per year limit.
