Best you can do is shift+tab then click View Players. And then recent games in the tab. It's kinda buggy and they won't show up if their set to private. But that's really the only way.

If you go to your friends list (on your profile, not the one at the bottom right corner of the screen) theres a tab that says recently played with, you can see a list of people you played with and it also shows the date and time.

You can do it this way but it doesn't tell you when you played with them.
It also has some bugs

The REAL ANSWER: Steam needs to make a "Recent Players" tab that works properly, kind of like how Overwatch/Blizzard does it nicely............
