hl2.exe - Not responding (TF2)

Every time I join a server (very common on Turbine), hl2.exe stops responding. I've done numerous things to try and fix it such as Reinstallation (several times), Defrag, checking validation of game files, turning sync on and off, messing around with the launch options, display options, graphics options, advanced options, you name it and I've probably tried it. Ever since I updated TF2 it's been quite the little ♥♥♥♥. I've thought about it, pondered, I think it might be caused by ads, possibly. Because I remember TF2 working (in the stage that it wasn't) when I joined a 2-Fort server which played no ads. Not entirely sure, if ANYONE has suggestions ABOVE what I previously stated. I'm all ears, I want to be able to play TF2! It's a good game!

I'm also having problems with the graphics now, they're flashing and acting twitchy. But not to worry, as I'm not looking for another solution, I've just quit trying to play TF2, all up. So if you can find an answer, gracias', but if not, then that's how it is... I think it's just my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ computer, time to get a job to save up for a Mac, smh. -_-

Do not buy a mac, just buy a decent desktop for £500

could ctrl,alt,delete then click task manager go on processes then end hl2.exe

i cant even get to the main menu freezes at the powered by valve screen at the beginning im tried so many different options but none work plz help D:

Im afraid that is hl2.exe for you, although good it was very poorly coded, Give it about 5 minutes and if it hasn't loaded by then it may be a CPU issue, Try turning down your quality settings
