Team Fortress 2
The Spy's Suit
Alright, this has bothered me forever, and at long last I'm getting to the bottom of this.

If you look carefully at the Spy, observe his tie. Follow his tie downwards and a piece of fabric the same color as his suit jacket covers up the bottom of his tie. However, it appears to be below the jacket itself. What the **** is it???

You sir, need to spend a little less time on this game. 132 hours over the past two weeks!

That's 44 weeks of play time for me.

Actually, my PC runs 24/7 and I usually keep TF2 running at the main menu so I don't have to load it back up when I get home.

So does no one know what's up with the Spy's suit?

Damn it community, I WILL find an answer.

it may be a merkin

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

Related: I just realized that the spy's suit has no visible buttons.

Good point. You would have thought velcro would give him away ... loud as a dead ringer uncloak

So... did valve just do a really crappy job modelling the suit?
The Baron May 5, 2013 @ 7:16pm
All joking aside the fabric that cuts of the base of the tie looks like a waistcoat to me. The lack of buttons is true and I hadn't noticed it before. I don't think it's crappy though imho. You can also get suits that button into the back of the cloth in front and are hidden (no idea what this is called) though I doubt what that is her as from vague memory that's more of a winter overcoat thing.

I still favour velcro ... or he is stitched in.

Honestly, it's pretty likely Valve didn't bother making it realistic because they didn't expect anyone to pay so much attention to it. They were wrong, apparently.

I'd assume it's made that way to actually be easier to model and render. Ya know, trimming polygons and what not.

That, or it's secretly a stealthsuit designed for the spy to have free range of movement and react to electrical pulses from his various watches to produce a holographic re-production of his surroundings to make him effectivly invisible, as well as having each individual nanobot that flows through said stealthsuit shed an outer latex-like coating producing an almost fully realistic replica of the spy to place on the ground as a decoy, this process also accelerates the nanobots ability to adapt their light receptors to camoflaug better with the evironment, effectivly overclocking them for better performance and forming a harder bond protecting the spy from incomming fire as an added perk while in overdrive. Unfortunately it's experimental I'd assume, hence why he never takes it off. Luckily it seems to have built in waste removal systems and the scout's mom seems to have a latex fetish, working into our spy's favor.

Other then that, I dunno :|, you're guess is as good as mine.

... and he missed the obvious. The spy is clearly wearing a nappy. Good for discrete forays behind enemy lines, but it does rather ruin the lines of his pants. Lift your game Valve.
