You should/have had three GCF files to open, with two of them containing sounds.
You open/would open these with GCFscape.
Meanwhile, in the modern age...
You should have a bunch of VPK files now in your tf folder. If Portal 2 taught me anything, it's that you need to open the game_thingy_dir.vpk, not the numerous game_thingy_###.vpk files.
Again, GCFscape.
If you want to make mods or change the sounds around, you have to make a folder in the custom folder, then make folders inside of that one, then add your files, etc.
