Clear up some disk space, that's all I can suggest. It needs room to convert between the two formats.

What you can try is deleting everything in your TF2 folder and installing from scratch. If you had any custom files you'll have to redownload them, though.

Will any of my items be deleted?

Basically TF2 before the conversion was about 12 GB Vanilla. After the update it only takes up 6.4GB on my drive. If you're that pressed for space you may want to just delete it and reinstall it.

Items as your weapons, hats, etc... No that is linked to your profile. Unless you delete them in game or through your steam inventory they are permanently there.

yep, they're all stored in the cloud...
think about it, if your stuff was stored on your computer, you could just give yourself whatever item you wanted :)

We'll be here. There are a lot of trolls out there but quite a few of us are willing to help a fellow player.

Go in and delete the TF2 file in Steamapps/<username>/TF2. It should of deleted a lot of stuff from this file but large files can still remain. I still have several GB in this file. Just to make sure the game was using up as little memory as possible I deleted all of TF2 and reinstalled it. Only took a few mins with my internet connection.

Huh, does that mean if someone was to hack the cloud, they could give themselves anything they want?
Cloud only holds your settings. Item servers hold your items, but you can't consider that "cloud" storage, its not local user data.
