cl_first_person_uses_world_model
Put this into console:
cl_first_person_uses_world_model 1

It makes your legs visible and you will see yourself like with the Oculus Rift. (Without the 3D effect, obviously)
To turn this mode off, simply type:
cl_first_person_uses_world_model 0

Some weapons look weird/little too low but personally I think it's awesome anyway.
So what do you think of this?

Honestly it feels clunky because you're seeing the world at head height, so most weapons fall out of view. This is probably a great feature and good reason to use that Oculus VR headset Valve was totting around in their blog post. At the moment, the set is $300 so I am not thinking about it. Maybe the VR headset will make the the game look better, but I didn't really research how to use it ... with a mouse and keyboard.

However, it makes playing pyro with rainblower enjoyable since the twisty, rapy tentacles are not in yo face anymore. Also, I can mimic the motion of the rainblower from Meet the Pyro :D If they can work to improve said animations so that I can't see into myself/arms/miscs/chest, I'd be a happy camper.

There is still that issue of seeing your own head, especially when swimming out of water, which makes me believe that the command just sets your camera outside yourself ... I don't know if I am saying that right. Personally I like it because seeing my own shadow brings me joy.

Yeah, it could use some improvement, but it's still sexy. It shows whatever you have on your hands though. (Gloves, shirt etc.) Normal viewmodels don't have that.

Being able to mimic what miscs you're using, especially gloves is a nice touch. However, looking down at my hands, I see colors from clothes blend with skin ... reminds of how old TF2 is.

Oh, and I just noticed that you can also see Huntsman arrows stuck in you. This makes everything so realistic.

I think it's supposed to be 1 instead of 0. I binded that command so I can't say for sure, but generally speaking 1 is on and 0 is off.

Also, you might notice that when you enable the command you won't see your body, only your weapon. Respawning/dying fixes it.

How does this effect performance? It seems to me it would either be a significant boost or penalty, depending on how player world model is handled without it.

i've been playing with it since that post, it's amazing. no performance difference that I could see, which makes me think it should be possible to get a good performance boost by forcing the game to not load viewmodels? if that's possible...
