3rd Person View

I've been searching for an answer to my question for over a week now to no avail. Over a year ago I downloaded the game and started playing. I did not download any hacks or cheats, that stuff in game annoys the crap out of me. The whole time I've played this game it has always been in 3rd person view. I went away on vacation and after a little over a week when I came back and tried to play the game again 3rd person view is gone. I've searched for info on this and it seems to me that this game has always been a 1st person shooter, there doesn't seem to be any updates to the game that took 3rd person away and no one else seems to be complaining that 3rd person is gone so Im at a loss to figure out what happened or why I was able to play in 3rd person for so long. Since that is the way I've played the game all long it is what I am used to so I guess what is the final answer? Was there 3rd person all along and now it's been taken our or was I playing 3rd person some how when I shouldn't have been all this time?

Open the console and type "sv_cheats 1" followed by "thirdperson". This should be able in singleplayer with bots. I don´t know about online. :)

That's strange that you've been in third person this entire time, since (I think) third person can only be activated through "sv_cheats". The only legal third person setting is "tf_medieval_thirdperson" which, obviously, is for Medieval Mode only.

Perhaps the servers you played on all had thirdperson enabled?

Or they all had that server plugin where you type "!tp" in chat for thirdperson as a default setting for all players...

lol highly doubt I played for a year and just lucked out on getting on 3rd person servers the whole time and never 1st person, and now I can only get on 1st person after my vacation lol.. I have no idea what happened.. I didnt even know the game was 1st person til I had this problem and started looking things up haha, so weird

Valve Canada TF2 has always been third person. By any chance did your location settings get changed? Try changing them back to Canada to restore 3rd person.

Another thing, where did you go on vacation? If you visited the U.S., thats probably it. Valve has been cracking down on this lately, people border hopping to get cheats. Usually though it is for people who live in U.S. and visit Canada, but maybe it works both ways.

yay! someone finally gave me an answer.. hang on I'll check! woot.. I hope thats it and no I have the game on my home pc so it didnt go with me and I stayed in Canada anyways :)

my steam profile still says Canada and I changed the download option in game to Montreal but Im still in 1st person lol.. grr

Perhaps because there's no honest to goodness reason why simply living in Canada would change something as drastic as the game's perspective.

The fact of the matter is that TF2 was made to be a first person shooter. Whatever happened that made your game third person was a fluke and nothing will change it back without altering the game in some way. The best you can do is find servers that have a third person option available or get accustomed to the playing first person.

I'm sorry, I was joking. Just having a little fun and now I feel bad.

It is true, either your game was glitched somehow, or you really have only been playing on sv_cheat 1 servers the whole year, unlikely as it sounds. That is a remote possibility. You can still get drops and everything, the only "penalty" is that acheivments aren't tracked. That might be one way to check, take a close look at your achevments.

nope got a ton of achieves.. and duhr I guess I should have seen the you were messing me lol I was just so excited that someone offered an reasonable sounding answer, although now looking back on it yeah... you got me :P lol. ah well will just have to learn how to play in 1st person. I still would like to know the answer to why I had it in 3rd all that time, didnt even know the game was in 1st person lol

What exactly do you mean by third person? Do you have any screenshots or replays saved, by any chance, so I can see what you had before the change? Any "after" ones?

haha.. no worries I'll just try and get used to 1st person, and by 3rd person I mean the camera is zoomed out a bit os you see your whole body and more of the game around you.. there are some videos and shots floating around out there of other people that have it, I think it may be a paid thing though? Not sure.
