Stuck in spectate?
So about yesterday I went to go play some tf2 but as soon as I join a game I'm stuck in spectate mode. I can press . and click a team but It doesn't do anything. I can't even change my view in spectate, it's locked. I've tried rejoining the server, typing retry into the console, typing jointeam into the console, and verifying integrity of game cache. Are there any solutions floating around that don't involve reinstalling the game?

the pot of gold servers do it if you have mtods bloked lol

You may have joined a Pinion server with HTML MOTDs disabled, certain servers have a plugin that forces people to spectate if they have MOTDs disabled.

How would I check? I've tried a couple different servers, so I don't think it's just the pinion ones.

Go to C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps and delete your profile folder. All your stuff and stats will be retained. Feel free to back it up if you don't believe me. Then load up TF2 again.

What I usually do when weird glitches come up and 99% of the time this fixes it.

This whole thread is stupid.

Go to dev console, type "retry". You disconnect, reconnect, and you can pick a team.

If you can't pick a team when you join, it's almost always because of a balance glitch when two people try to join the same team at once. Reconnecting fixes this.
I've completely blocked HTML and the Pinion timer, and I can always join.

Tried all that. Retry did nothing, and I can pick a team, it even says I've joined the team in the chat, but I'm still stuck spectating.

The same thing is now happening to me. I also have the impression that it has to do with Pinion, because their MOTD suddenly loads very slowly. I haven't deactivated MOTD though so I don't really know how to fix this. If anybody has advice on this I would much appreciate it. Thanks guys

I ended up uninstalling it and playing tf2 on a different computer. I never got any of the fixes to work.

for anyone having the same problem. Nothing of the retrying, spectate etc. worked for me.

What works for me is disabling / closing GOOGLE DRIVE. (it's also better for the ping)

this happens to me on servers that have no ads, with the default MOTD.
retry just puts me right back in spectate.
