I stopped playing TF2 because of terrible players
I haven't played TF2 in about 3 months because of how low quality 90% of players are in this game. For the record, I've been playing the game since its release in 2007 and picked up the PC version in 2008. For small periods of time I stop playing just so I don't burn myself out, but this has been by far the longest I've ever stopped playing.

I simply can't take how bad players are anymore.

Now, this might not be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that I play Medic all the time. In fact, clicking my profile there will show that I play Medic for every game that has a Medic/Healer/Priest, whathaveyou. If you think it's bad normally, imagine being the guy that has to be responsible for keeping the bad players alive. I can't stand (including but not limited to):

  • How people insist on having 3 Snipers/3 Spies on a team.
  • How people build sentries at spawn instead of where they're needed*
  • How people can't grasp even the most basic concepts of a FPS like observational awareness (and how said basics are often treated like only the best of the best players can do them)
  • How people can't capture the objective if it was sitting right in front of them
  • How Engineers build on last point even when the attacking team still has 3 points to cap

Of course, this is where you say, "Oh, but I'm just having fun! It's just a game, lighten up!" You know what I say to that?

♥♥♥♥. You.

No no, I'm sorry, how dare I want to actually play a game based around teamwork with clear design and gameplay goals. How DARE I "play to win." You have no idea what that means, do you? "Play to win." Did you conjure up MLG? Did T-Squared come to mind? Did you ♥♥♥♥ your perverbial britches at the thought that I would want to win? Spoiler alert: Playing to win doesn't mean competitive-level gameplay. Let me fill you in on a little secret that is apparently lost on everybody:

You do not have to choose between having fun and being good at something. You can do both at the same time.

Why the hell would I even be in the server where the entire objective is to push a payload from point A to point B if I didn't want to actually do that? You do realize there are plenty of Orange maps and idle servers and Mario Kart maps if you didn't want to play the game, right?

"I'm having fun!"

Yeah? Well I'm not and you're incredibly selfish for only thinking of yourself. Not only are you ruining MY fun by not learning the basic concepts of the game, but you're ruining everyone else's fun who also actually want to make an attempt at not getting steamrolled time after time after time. What you need to understand is that I am not looking for competitive-level gameplay. I'm looking for decent gameplay. The bare minimum. The point at which you try and fail not because you have no idea what you're doing, but because you got outplayed. This isn't 1992 anymore, playing video games is no longer a stigma that's reserved only for 'nerds' or 'shut-ins'. Saying "It's just a game/video game" is an admission that you can't cope with the fact that you're terrible. And you know what? I would be perfectly fine with it if you actually tried to crawl out from that hole. If you actually made an attempt to get better. But no, trying to crawl out of that hole is confused with, "I want to be a pro player," when it's not.

I play to win because that is the literal definition of a common, modern video game. Not playing a game to win means that you would have to actively try to do nothing. It's not surprising that any attempt of having a decent game is meant with the usual calls of "tryhard!" or "srsbsness". That is how low it has gotten.

"Oh maybe you should go to-"

No. Why does everyone want me to go to some TF2 lobby or something similar? Why do you just accept mediocrity as a fact of life instead of doing something about it, especially when you don't have to accept the mediocrity in the first place? Progress isn't made by just twiddling your thumbs and hoping the problem will just fix itself.

There's a vast difference between wanting baseline competency and demanding perfection.

-----------------------------------------------------

And for the record, I'm not "angry" or "mad", I'm frustrated and disappointed.

*Even when I proved that it's always better to build in the field

k
I just came from a game where we were taking a point and an enemy sniper was 5 feet from us not even noticing the fact that his team was about to lose.

Online gaming attracts a number of people who are oblivious, don't communicate and don't listen.

I occassionally build on the third point when I know my team is going to get rolled and I need time to build in a strange spot.

tl;dr: You need to calm your tits more?

Situationally, though not often, there are places where 3 are not bad to have particularly on defense.

Which is more efficient, building a sentry at the place it's needed and spending mroe time getting pieces of material to get it up to level 3, or building it up to level 3 right outside spawn, where you can go back to 200 metal in a second or two, and then bring it to where it is needed?

That said there are a few points I do find as annoying as you do.
An indeed Nice story you got there. But what should we do? Right. That is your own problem, there are enough other Players I point my Gun at, so I wish you look for your journey to find another Game where everyone is "as good as you" or "better".

Here is the solution to all your problems in 3 easy steps!

1. Make friends
2. Play with said friends
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until content

If you think you're such a pro and hotshot, go play some pugs or try 6ses. That would get your head out of your ass really fast.

Sometimes ♥♥♥♥ people just happens :(
Maybe try to find better server?
Nah OP is right. About 80% of people that play this game are brain dead.
JimothyJohn Oct 27, 2013 @ 5:43pm
The truth of the matter is that many people that play the game now are still fairly new to it. Granted there will always be those who have been playing for years and have not improved but it is not up to you to say that they should "try to be better" or " to learn the basics".

What seems like basic knowledge to veteran players is a brand new concept to many players. Such as the common mistake that you can shoot through glass or the mistake that when invisible you can neither be found or hurt.

This game has a easy but long sloped learning curve and many people do not get to the top of it. Why? Because they are in fact there just to have a bit of fun for a couple hours. They do not want to be the best of the best or even the middle ground. They just want to experiment and try different things.

Just to remember that this game is based on teamwork in more ways than one. Meaning that if someone is doing something wrong do not berate them or insult them. Be helpful and offer some advice. If they listen then great! You have taught someone something! If they do not then it is a temporary setback for your team and more of a loss for them.

Be patient and understanding.

This is a good thread.
Personally, I can't stand playing due the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ teenagers who spew their ironic internet culture jokes 24/7.

I love you.

Took me 10 seconds to get this joke.
[On-Topic] Like people told me about TFC, it'll get better. Just play on servers that only allow Premium and P2Ps, or just play with your friends.
