Team Fortress 2
Why TF did valve go with 6v6 instead of Highlander?
Highlander would have been a better option for people just getting into comp. Why just why.

If you mean the official comp mode, it's cause the official comp mode like the entirety of meet your match, was incredibly rushed and due to a lack of man power never got fixed or changed around like it should've.
lower player count = less people for comp also i think the people in valves hair ear was 6s dudes not highlander slaves
I assume because you can't queue with 9 people in a party, meaning that the party system isn't sufficient enough for a round of Highlander with the boys. Also, the thing with one player per class may lead to chaos, as for example, someone picks away Scout, which you were about to pick.

IMO, there should be both Highlander and 6s. One of them doesn't replace the other because they are fundamentally different.
One can only imagine—could be because it’s easier to seed 12 players on any class rather than 18 with no repeating classes on either team, the difficulty to implement and create a ranking system for, or the fact that it was simply easier to cut the server size in half and not worry too much about maps and rulesets….

I personally believe that the people they sought opinions from on the update heavily influenced the decision to favor 6s as the “default” gamemode over hl. Although it’s worth noting that again, hl hardly holds the same relevancy in the competitive atmosphere as 6s does, so it would be admittedly pretty insulting to endorse a gamemode only specialist mains play over the longstanding community-favorite.
If highlander were the chosen aproach would it be 9v9 and each player chooses which class then arguments happen over "no i wanna play engi" or players decide their class before matchmaking which would be hell for finding games and players of similar skill level. Also the problem of its too easy to pick medic and troll by playing battle medic, and no way to switch classes after.

6s is just what was decided and some maps were just designed around that as well as weapon balancing

highlander would be harder to organize

What i remember, is:
.) highlander is a team organization nightmare... 9 people concurrently avalibe for matches, per team is almost as likely as you winning the lottery (in unofficial comp)
.) highlander is too slow paced for your avg comp maniac
.) highlander is too complex for your avg comp audience (and by extension, the narrator, if theres one)
.) highlander needs things like competent full-time heavy players, something thats hard to come by
.) most importantly, most of the ppl valve kept contact with during mym's development where pushing for 6s and thus, for 6vs6
you think competitive 12v12 could've been possible?, like football has a bunch of people on each team, and video games for some reason thought as sports, so would've that been possible? they wouldn't have had to change tf2 if it was 12v12 instead of 6v6, not 6v6 is bad let people play what they want, but 6v6 isnt tf2 as much as 12v12 is tf2

Faceit ran a 12v12 tournament and it was absolutely terrible.

It should have been given up on over a decade ago. If Valve hadn't tried to force TF2 into the competitive esports model we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.
actually the game would be in a better state if it was treated as a serious competitive game even earlier instead of catering to 2fort funny moments idler dressup sim enjoyers

Quickplay was working fine by the time MyM came out. Casual wasn't working on release and it still isn't working 9 years later.
damn thats crazy but it doesn't really have anything to do with anything I said

Casual's inherent flaws are a result of trying to make an inherently casual game more competitive to bridge the gap between the casual and comp communities. You can't have team scramble, ad hoc connections, or switching teams on the fly, gotta let the matchmaker try to sort the players on a server by skill into roughly equal teams, then judge everyone by their performance at the end (even though 9 classes and hundreds of unlocks make the idea of a single, unified skill grade ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless).
