Hot Take: DOXXING IS BAD!

Greetings, fellow humans.

I’m sure you’re all aware of the Omegatronic doxxing situation. I’m not sure if he’s actually being doxxed, but it’s possible. Anyways, I wanted to discuss why this is not right in any possible way.

First of all, doxxing is illegal. It’s a cyber crime. Putting people’s personal information on the web with negative intent isn’t a very good thing. I don’t think I need to elaborate that. However, I’ve seen many people actively ENCOURAGE this. People in this community actively encourage others to commit cyber crimes on those they don’t like. It’s terrible.

But what did Omega do? Why is he receiving these threats? Well, he hosts bots, as you know. This is just excessive cheating, which is easily avoidable. I’m not going in depth on this since it’s already been talked about to death. However I think it’s obvious that cheating in a video game isn’t deserving of being doxxed.

Now what other heinous crimes (not literal) did this fiend commit? Well, on X (formally known as Twitter) he made a post mocking the death of Rick May.

That’s it. He cheated in a game and made a troll post on social media. That somehow means he’s eligible to be doxxed? I really don’t understand it. I know it can be frustrating to see bots, but they’re an inconvenience at worst. And let’s be real here, you didn’t care about Rick May until he died. You probably didn’t even know who he was..

The fact that the community is like this is sad. People want to dox (a crime) someone because they said a mean thing about a dead guy they don’t know. It’s depressing! You guys really need to get your life together. Feel free to discuss your thoughts below.

TLDR: You shouldn’t dox someone for being a cheater/troll. Or at all, since its literally a crime

It's comparable to those nuisance streamers, who are just being annoying idiots (and actually breaking the law, but let's disregard that for a moment). Eventually, they mess with the wrong person and get punched in the face. Nobody in their right mind should say "I'm glad he finally got punched." Only if they are doing criminal ♥♥♥♥, hoping for a punishment is fair.
It's not wrong to say that it was only a matter of time until someone faces consequences (even though the validity of the dox is highly debated), but it's wrong to cheer for the consequences of someone's actions unless it actually is criminal, which automated cheating is not.
