pubs and lobbies
I would really like to get good at this game fast. So far Ive played for around 4months and Ive been doing fine in pubs for around a month now, top scoring every once in a while, beating a lot one on ones(mge) etc. Also Ive watched a lot of vids and competive matches so the consepts of highlander and 6vs6 and tactics in them I have some knowledge. So Im kinda asking about the skill level in tf2 lobbies compared to pubs. I want to know this couse im the kind of person who cant stand being the worst by a huge cap, even before my first pub I had around 3-5 hours per class offline practice to build up some muscle memory on each class. So I want to know how well you need to do in an avarage pub to do decent in lobbies. And what are like the lowest amount of hours put in the game before even thinking about joining a lobby.
Also I dont have a mic, how much people use those in lobbies and should I get one before I go play there?

Uhmmmmmm I'd say AT BARE MINIMUM 150-200 hours. Anyone in lobbies are the people you see consistintly get top of the score board in pubs. Mic's are used alot in comp. Also people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you don't do your job good or 'right' so you might want to practice alot more first. I have around 960 hours of TF2. 960 compared to... <your hours here> and I still don't always win in lobbies. There are good ,♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nonetheless, players there. You don't want to get embrassed so you should wait a while. :sticky:

Pubs to lobbies is like oil spill to wave 666. There is a big gap but then again, you won't be able to ever beat wave 666 if you only play oil spill.

There isn't really any indicator in pubs for when it's time to go competitive. If you pretty frequently topscore on pubs while only having been on the server for let's just say half the time as the person who's been on the longest, then it's probably time. If not but pubs don't seem to be giving challenge, still, go ahead. The thing with competitive, even though lobbies aren't the best example, is gamesense and knowing what, when, and where is equally important with actual killing ability.

Hours don't usually matter, and the earlier the start (as long as you can take it) the better.

For lobbies, not a big deal. It sure helps your team but is far from needed. Once you get into competitive, then it starts being needed.

It's not much topscoring on pubs that says you should play on tf2lobby.com, it's more the tricks.
Getting topscore on pubs says you know how to aim and trickstab, but then again, do you know how to properly manage cloak and abuse it's use for ze mind games?

There was a website called http://tf2lobby.com/ (it's down for some reason. Not sure why) where you could play in a competitive format. However, now that it's down, not too sure about finding a group to play. The best bet is to play with friends, or just get into actual highlander/6v6 games with people. What I can say however, is that a mic is definitely needed. It is a must to communicate with your teammates.

Just try to play these lobbies. Then you will know, if you are good enough or not.

I'm just gonna point out that not everyone mains spy. Actually if you're looking into competitive I'd advise against it, just because there's way more spies in the whole scene than teams willing to accept them.

More than half of been a cabable fighter is knowing what to expect. Think back to day one of TF2 and all those times you failed simply because you either didnt know what was going to happen. Well, competitive is just on a whole different level from publics, meaning that you'll fail a lot even if your aim is so much better than everyone else in the lobby. Just expect to fail a lot until you learn the differences between your public TF2 experience and lobbies. You'll be a lot worse than people whove played competitive for a couple of months, but they were terrible players in the beginning too.

Being a competitive player my self, I would advise you start lobbies at 1000 hours, unfortunatly you will get a n/a sign on you.

Focus on one class, it is quite hard to be good at multiple.

If you are a little kid avoide lobbies, a lot of adults go on there, many kids just get told to shut the ♥♥♥♥ up and leave, which I can understand, wouldn't want a little kid trying to rule the team.

Get a MIC, communication is crutial

You will run into frenchies, barely any of them are nice and are just elietest who say everone but themselfs suck.

It is a giant jump from pubs to lobbies, you will be fighting against people at the top of TF2, I even fought luckyluke from the comp TF2 ext channel, and no, not people like STAR_ much better than STAR_.

Don't play medic... You will have a massive amount of pressure on you and the n/a on you will get you kicked.

Don't care about score or K/D it doesn't make you a good player.
