Getting Stuck in the Chat Box

So one day, I was playing TF2 and had the time of my life as the Spy. Just jumping around, trolling engineers, that kind of stuff. This all came to an end when suddenly, the chatbox appeared out of nowhere. I assumed that this was just me accidently pressing y, but the chatbox wouldn't disappear. Everytime I pressed escape, the box would just blink and come back again. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
- I've discovered that by entering "retry" into the developer's console cancels the chatbox, but I think there are better ways to do this rather than jumping out of a game.
- Another inefficient way to fix this that I have discovered is that holding tab can allow me to move, shoot, and aim. However, this only works with tab held.

I actually did try typing in something and hitting enter to see if it would go away. Same thing unfortunately.

Yeah, I've done that and it works...but that seems rather heinous to me. I'm looking for a way to get back to playing at maybe the push of a button without having to reconnect to the server. Probably should have included that in the original post.

This does not happen everytime bringing up the chatbox, but it happens occasionally during some hectic moments during some matches. Such as when I'm trying to run away from a pyro who really wants me dead.

Nah, I run on GTX 760m which gets me at around 120-140 fps, but sometimes dips to the 80s. I don't quite follow when you say "messed up inputs."

Happens to me quite a bit. Only as Spy, which is wierd. I'm only able to do anything if I hold TAB down.

Sometimes when typing to copy text from the chat box it gets stuck try moving your mouse till you see the curser then hit the close button should do the trick

It happened to me, I opened the main menu, I got suck in the main menu WITH the chat glitch and i opened the console, i got suck in the console, when I open the class select, i got stuck in that too with the glitch

also, i think it will be less glitchy if you right click team fortress 2 in your library, properties, set launch options, then type -windowed -noborder
