Team Fortress 2
How Can I Successfully Play Spy When I Haven't Played Him At All?
So I need some help learning how to play Spy. I haven't played him yet because I'm more focused on getting quick kills (using Sniper, Soldier, Demoman, Heavy, and sometimes Scout) than I am with Engineers. The only time I focus on Engineers is when there's a turret that's annoying me. Can someone help, or teach, me how to play Spy?

by not playing spy
oh okay
Don't play Spy, you're much better off playing a good class

Dont take time be quick have a unique movement pattern or flow into backline and approach or uncloak from weird unaware angles because everyone expects you to approach directly from behind at a distance. during fighting it helps a lot. Even in dustbowl I topscored a lot including on last

Never played IT
rely on cloak more than disguises & be aware of surroundings
use gun to kill low health people if it's safe
try to avoid suicide stabs unless it's worth it (like a medic about to get uber)

dont run into huge groups of enemies expecting to get a giant chainstab youll probably stab one guy (maybe) and die in .2 seconds
if your on defense sap teleporters, this one action alone can prevent the other team from getting the momentum they need to win.

step 1: Get on a match
step 2: Change to any other merc
step 3: profit

Gain experience with other classes first. Spy is unique and attractive to new players but isn't really that good for them. You will be more successful with the class later.

Use Cloak and Degger with L'Etranger and watch what enemies are doing. After a while you'll have general understanding where they look and what they do. This will help you make decisions when to stab them. Avoid main paths when you go behind them when possible. And don't worry if you randomly get shot and die or someone turn around for no reason. It will happen no matter how good you are.

Spy on pubs is pretty easy to learn and be effective with as long as your team have enough power classes to distract enemies (and your team doesn't have 3+ spies to make them paranoid). But if you ever want to play spy in competitive, prepare for big ass whooping. It's a completely different game there and your gun and team coordination matter a lot more.

Attack your enemies while they are distracted/occupied with something else. When your team engages with the enemy team, that's where you'll be able to turn the tides and kill everyone fairly easily.
As long as you do your primary goals of:
1. Killing good targets (aka anyone it just varies of importance from class to class.)
2. Getting rid of engi buildings
Then you're set, it all just depends on how you do it.

Go where people aren't looking. Pick off wounded players with revolver. Don't rely on "trickstabs" to get kills.

Be patient. Spy is one of the hardest classes for new players.
