The Free MVM Tickets (
(I posted this same speech on the MVM sub forum, but I wanted to post it here too because more people look at general discussion than mvm and this a topic I think people would be interested in. I am not sure if i'm allowed more than 1 post of the same thing, if so I apologize and if this needs to be removed then please keep the MVM one open and close this one instead)

So all us MVM players have recently been visited by our dear friends who have joined us with their free tickets. I just want to start by saying that this an absolute pain in the ass. We all know that Valve has purposely gave the newbs and f2p the ticket so that they can experience the game mode and then possibly want to buy a ticket themselves, and I can respect that marketing, however it has resulted in a complete overhaul in these players in the advanced and probably for some people expert missions. I want to cover my point of view on this whole thing without offending anyone or something like that, and I am open to all sides of the argument, however my opinion is my opinion, so please respect that and know that this is just a discussion.

So firstly, I have played quite a lot of Operation Two Cities this week with Christmas coming along and I have some money to spend, and it had been a little while since I played any mvm because I usually just play Payload for an hour or 2 and then call it a night. But these free bundles of gifts we all received prompted me to use the free ticket I had, well because it just kills you inside when you look at a ticket and it's not being used. :P I already had one mission completed in the operation, so I thought I should get that 1 to 2. With it being christmas, I completely understand the long waits for games etc, but with my return to mvm I learnt that it wasn't just a hoard of enthusiastic experienced players having loads of games for Christmas, it was the waves of newbs, tour 0s, and f2ps that were essentially clogging up the servers.

So I found myself abandoning games quite a lot of the times in my first few attempts to get a completed mission, due to the fact that some of players were ignorant, repulsive, nonreactive to in game chats asking for them to change class or move sentry etc, or just down right loss of common sense. Of course I knew these were NEW players, but it's just how the sight of this one single ticket can spring these players minds into thinking they can get straight into the action and probably win something amazing like an australiam weapon. Obviously that would never be the case as 1 ticket cannot get you a tour completion, but I could already grasp their mindsets from the first couple of games. What really annoys me though is the fact that their terrible lack of knowledge of, lets say, competitive mvm, (where you regularly pay to play in order to win something, and in a sense have "something on the line" as your profit, money or other purposes for playing, so it is quite important that everything runs smoothly in order to get straight onto the final mission in order to secure your loot), is based off absolutely nothing because they have probably never played a boot camp or even a x10 mvm server, any kind where they get some kind of experience and know what each class has to offer etc etc. What their non-existent understanding of the mode translates into are the core reasons why they are vote kicked and heckled off the server. Now I completely respect the fact that they are a new player (Sometimes), and are taking their bambi steps into Team Fortress 2, but surely if you are given a free ticket to something unknown you shouldn't be taking on the hardest missions or maybe even any of them because it is just a wasted player spot in a lobby with potentially serious and experienced mvm players who want to get the job done, and instead of going straight into it they could try out a few boot camp games just so they realize it isn't like an every day team death match and there are tactics involved and consideration required about the priorities of bombs and tanks and giants.

In the missions that I have been able to get into where there are players on the same page as me, trying to soar through the rounds and what not, their attitudes are likewise to mine. I know it isn't fair to put them on the spot and make them feel stupid, but it is all round their fault for not thinking about what they are getting into. Some may argue "Oh it's just a game", but when you enjoy a game so much, it becomes sentimental and suddenly turns into something important. To conclude, I am not happy with these free tickets. Yes, I used to be in their situation, and yes they have every right to play as I do, but as a devoted member of this community it is only right that I bring up this topic with such "passion" because it's not really much of a problem or a fault in the game, but I really think these free tickets should be given to a specific group of new players, with maybe over a 24 hour play time, and prompts them to try out boot camp before going into competitive mvm, just so they know the basics.

As I said in the beginning, I am open to all sides of the argument, and this thread is purely for the reason of discussion as it is something I know a lot of people have a view on. There is probably some stuff I should of added into this and maybe some mistakes, but I can probably be reminded of it and mention it in a reply to a comment. I hate to say it but i'd like to think I have an answer for everything, so any opinion is probably gonna be ricocheted around my brain until I can come up with an intelligent, persuasive and good argument. But it's all in good fun, and nothing said is personal or meant to be hurtful. Thanks for reading this literal speech, and I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless.

Well, I have 221 tours in Expert and 54 in Advanced, I have no problem with the new players. We all started with 0 tours so I'm fine with being patient with new players since we all were there at some stage. Just get over it. If they're bad and you just don't feel like dealing with them, either votekick them or leave. It's really that simple.

Honestly, the only people I actually have major problems with in MvM are the high tour players with their superiority complex, acting like just because they have 100+ tours they are Gods and if you don't bow down to whatever they say, they insta kick you. I don't want to hear the excuse of "well, we've dealt with too many noobs over these tours so we just don't want to bother with them anymore" because to be honest, you're not that good. Most high tours I've played with are actually average, there was even one time a 300+ tour had no idea how to sentry block on Mannhattan. I was literally dumbfounded as to how that even happens.

tl:dr

Short Version:

We were all noobs at some point, give them a break. Superiority complex high tour players are worse than noobs.
Well that is your opinion and I an respect that but I still stand by what I say. I myself am not one of these high tour players, but you don't need to be to see what point ive made. I have also said that I understand we were all at their point one time, but this is different to seeing a new player on payload or something. At least with game modes like payload rand the other ones on that automatic searcher there is no competitive, and it is for all levels, and you can actually learn from it to improve yourself. However these tickets make them skip that training they gain and had them jump straight into something where so many people expect so much from them and expect to deliver, yet they have no idea what they are doing because they haven't playedthe boot camp. It is debatable that it's not their fault, and maybe they've just been playing multiplayer in their short time on tf2, but that's why there has to be some kind of prompt like I mentioned to someone else.

I don't like how noobs try to play on the advanced missions (though my friend keeps asking me to play them and I have yet to finish an entire tour :P i have done quite a bit of boot camp though, and learned a lot before i tried it), something I dislike more is how rude some people are to the noobs. I completely understand with your stance, just as long as you don't cuss out the noobies and tell them they're "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful" like some people did to myself and some other people :/ Something I find pretty funny, however, is after these people left, the team went on to finish about half of the mission.

I'd like to take back everything I said. I just spent the last hour joining a ♥♥♥♥ ton of CONSTANT noobs. Apparently, 2 Engis that build in the most horrible places and have terrible upgrades know best. Spies are more useful than heavies. A raging "pro" 3 tour scout doesn't know there is actually more than ONE place to sentry block etc.

So again, I'd like to take back everything I said in my previous post. They're terrible. It was so bad I actually alt+f4, which I haven't done in a long time.

I'm just gonna wait till maybe February to use my tickets.

That is, assuming they can beat the missions in that time...
