Config.cfg reseting itself :-(
Hello :-) I have a pretty big problem with my config.cfg file. I wanted to install some of my scripts and i created autoexec.cfg file (didn't have one originally) and i added a line to config.cfg:

exec autoexec.cfg

And now here's my problem. Every time i turn tf2 on my config.cfg removes this line :-( I really like my scripts and i'd love to use them :-( If you have any ideas how to fix it please telll me. I will really appreciate it :-)

What is the file name saved as? If it doesn't end in .cfg then that might be your problem.

It is saved in cfg format. Everything worked just a week ago, but i installed new windows (8) and everything broke.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to edit the config.cfg in order for the autoexec.cfg to exec on startup. Because, ya know, it's the autoexec.

Have you saved the autoexec.cfg as "All Files" opposed to a normal .txt file?
I saved it as "all files", but i didn't have autoexec originally :-/, so i needed to make one. It worked on my previous setup, now after re-installing it broke. Also, previously it didn't work without putting the line in config.cfg :-(

You don't need a cfg file to execute the autocfg, it does the autocfg when you open TF2.

That's odd. Do you have Steam Cloud enabled? I did a fresh install several months ago and ran into trouble from Cloud reinstalling the old config, disallowing installation of a new one.

Disabling Steam Cloud might be the way to go. You'll have to reset all of your settings in-game and reinstall the config as autoexec.cfg, but it'll save you trouble in the long run. Especially if you ever need to do a reinstall of TF2, Windows, etc.

Just backup the config next time and put it in the appropriate folder.
Thanks for an idea, i will try it out :-)

Turning it off didn't help (i went to library, right click on tf2, then to the 2nd or 3rd tab and disabled steam cloud) :-(

It turnes out steam cloud was a solution. It just needed 5 mins to turn off :-) Thank you, you wouldn't believe how much you helped :-)

Why would you even add extra lines to config.cfg??? config.cfg is a file that stores your settings, and that Should Be its only use. About the autoexec.cfg problem, go to your steam library, right click on team fortress 2, click "Launch Option", and type in "-exec autoexec". This is a command that runs every time you boot up TF2 from Steam (or use the TF2 shortcut that comes when you installed the game). You don't have to turn off your steam cloud just to do this... Search "TF2 Launch Options" online and you can find other useful startup commands, such as "-novid" to remove the annoying valve intro every time you load TF2.

I already solved this, it was five years ago. Thanks though :)
