What do the Gift Pickups do actually?

I mean, I got about 5 or 6 of them today. They were just on the ground occasionally. When I picked them up, nothing happened except one lousy achievement: Gift Grab.

it's an achievement smissmass achievement
you need to collect 5 i think i did it last year
you gain nothing in terms of items
just an achievement

Datlossit (Inactive, check bio) has Team Fortress 2

They don't do anything i believe, they really are only used for the Gift Grab achievement, which requires you to pick up 3 of them from killed enemy players.
