TF2 Chat Filter

I would like to be able to filter out messages based on what the message contains. (or doesn't contain) The default filters just aren't what I need. For example, I would like to see only messages that pertain to trading. (get rid of those Lenny faces) Server owners will hate on me for this, but I would also like to use this to filter out automatic server messages.

If I can't do this via a TF2 script or something, Is there a way I can filter it on a packet level? Like dropping certain chat packets before they even get read by the game?

Any ideas or thoughts on where I should start looking?

EDIT: All you need to do is look at the comments to see why I want this.
