Customized Crit sounds?
So lately, I've been wanting to practice playing Sniper(and maybe spy) and getting better at what it is they are supposed to do. I know skill comes with time, but I am so used to dashing about the enemy as a scout or running at people's back as the pyro(sneakysneaky), that trying to hang back as the sniper waiting for the headshoots doesn't feel rewarding enough. I was wanting to change my crit(headshot if different) sound so that it's not the generic electricity noise that you hear any time you backburn someone. I've looked all over, and so far none of what I've found has worked., I know it's possible because I've seen some videos where someone had it, but they gave no tips beyond placing it in the custom folder.

In short:
I've put crit_hit(etc).wav into the tf/custom/my_custom_stuff/sound/player folder, but I don't hear my custom sounds when playing on an all crits server.
What am I missing?

Also, is there a command I can use to check what sv_pure setting the current server is using?

Pretty simply the command is "sv_pure".

Typing the command without a value will 99% of the time tell you what value it currently is. Sv_pure happens to also print out some more info but it'll tell you.

Might be that you need to convert it into .mp3, but I'm not sure what things have been changed to use mp3 and what still use wav, so I'd leave that for if you're sure sv_pure isn't the issue.

Definately not sv_pure the issue, so I'll see if mp3 changes anything, but I dunno since my normal custom hitsound still works as a wav

Thank you for the help, sv_pure wasn't the problem nor was it mp3, they are still wav for the time being.

I have custom crit sounds now :D

I was sniping on a trade server and happened to be in a relatively quiet spot, and heard my sound when I shot the head so the problem was I just had a quiet sound. Fixed it in audacity to be louder and I now have my sniping motivation :D
