Each shield has it's perks. There is no best.
They are all there to fit how you play.
The Targe is sorta the stock one, the all-around sorta guy.
The Screen is for the guy you see in the middle of the fight. Fun fact bout it, the amount of heads you have increases the damage the Shield Bash does.
And the Tide Turner is for the sneakier guy, since your charge stops if you take damage. But, you know, being able ot turn on a dime is nice.
The Splendid Screen gives up some resistances for more and easier bash damage. IMO, not worth it, but to others, it might be.
The Tide Turner... got nerfed so hard that I barely see anyone use it anymore. It gives you better mobility and decent resistances, but any damage you take reduces the length of your charge. And from what I've heard, it barely takes any damage to completely stop you.
So my vote is firmly for the Targe.
But yes, no shield is the best. Just use the one that fits you the most.
basically the tide turner is worthless.
-Targe for durability
-Screen for pure power
-Turner for manuverability
For melee choice suggestions:
-Targe: Eyelander or Scottsman's Skullcutter
-Screen: Eyelander or Persian Persuader
-Turner: Eyelander or Claidheamh Mòr
The Eyelander goes well with any of the shields.
Also, if you equip the Ullapool Caber with a shield, go to hell.
