Horizontal rocket Jump
ok, I know how to rocket jump : I crouch jump while I shoot the floor slightly behind me (and hold ctrl if i wanna go higher). However I can't manage to do a rocket jump to propel me farther (wall jump) like the ones used by STAR and Muselk. My rocket jump always gives me fall damage and most of the times I wanna go a bit farther .

I know I've got to shoot the corner between the wall and the floor and press A/D. However I fail miserably. Most wall jumps tutorials leads me to wall escalation. The closest thing to explain precisely what I got to do was this comment below:

When going for distance, always use the A or D key when RJing. Not W or S.

-W is for height and little distance, while walking straight forward and RJing.
-Noob RJers walk literally backwards holding S, and RJ, thinking that will give them distance. NEVER jump backwards. Too many reasons why for me to care to list, but just know that it doesn't work as well as A and D for distance.

Now, you should mainly be using A, since the rocket comes out of the right side of the stock launcher (and most launchers).
D should mainly be used for left walls if you need to.

-If going off the floor for distance, strafe sideways using A towards where you want to go, shoot the floor on your right (which would now be the opposite of where you want to go, so that it pushes you where you DO want to go) at a 45ish degree angle, and flick your mouse towards the direction you want to go. While in the air, DO NOT hold W thinking it'll help you go farther. It actually makes it worse, and you won't go as far.
-If going off a wall, follow the same steps, but do it off the bottom portion of the wall. Not the middle and not the complete bottom near the floor, but a mid point of those.

-if I press A I go away from the wall making the jump impossible.
-It's weird to hold A + ctrl after ctrl+space. It's so counter-intuitive...I'm not getting the rocket jump
- Can someone give a detailed step by step ?
-I should be learning a rocket jump from a wall, right ?
Thanks
-I really have to learn this jump

Press A and fire a split second later. Try to jump-crouch while doing it for distance, because knockback is stronger when you're airborne. I can't really explain it without a video.

If you're talking about jumping from wall to wall like some sort of explosive ninja, I would not recommend doing that if you're not using the Gunboats, or if you don't have a Medic. There's also a ground-based version of that, but it's just bunny hopping at that point.

All I do is aim behind me and jump if I can.

Face the wall when using A.
Then shoot at the wall slightly above the actual Ground.
Go on a jump server / into Training / etc. where you have some time and practice the jump.
Take your time with each step and don't rush it. It will help you getting the pattern down.
Be aware of every key you press, don't press and need to press.
Will make it easier to get used to the crrl / space thingy.
And don't let yourself get discouraged, jumping needs some time and practice to get used to. :3

would like you to make a vid since its easyer to imitate than just read something and think that we're doing right * no offence of course

When I do that I end up being pushed to left.
-Look to the wall
-press A
-crouch jump
-keep holding ctrl

Ok, I made 2 quick videos about it.

In the first you see many "fail-attempts". I do a couple of the rocket jumps I know(much height small distance)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVgwSMNuphk

In this second video you see me trying to go my so desired rocket jump. As you can see I always end up going to the opposing side. Near the end I almost manage to achieve something close to what I want

What I'm doing wrong ?
then again, how many maps actually ahve a decent set of walls to be skipping along

rj is functional and all, but you hardly have to use it overly to get somewhere

open maps come with open spaces ( wall jumps are either pointless or takes you much longer then needed because you have to go around the outside instead of just forward

close quarter maps - well you make it cross map in one jump ( so again hardly needed )

its much more a showcase of how much time you wasted in achieving the pointless then an actual functional thing

if you can jump forward and around corners ( whether it's from forward or last minute slidebackwards shoot movement is irrelevant, it's all you need )

fancy stuff is overrated and is of no use to the team

you might want to unprivate them

They are unprivated now.
I understand your point Cookie. I dont want to memorize specific points to keep jumping across the MP. I just feel that this RJ is more effective to me because soldiers are slow and most of the time there are no teleporters. I tend to lose my health doing jumps that wont give distance i need at that time. I thought it was something as simple as the onde i do.

A simple walljump isn't really fancy.
And unlike where you shoot behind you jumping from a wall will give you more distance.
You also can use pillars/objects to make this jump, not only walls.

@the vid.
You try to jump off from a left wall, not a right one.
The rockets come out from the right corner of your screen so you would need to aim more to the left to get the jump you want.

I would however recommend jumping from a right wall since it makes it easier.
If you still go away from it aim a little more behind you and use a bit of strafing after the jump.

wait i might be misunderstanding

are we taling about wall jumpin as you push of from a wall ( which is indeed more beneficial )
or are we talking about the "fancy" continuous skipping along a long wall without touching the ground

cause when i hear wall jumping i assume the second one...... :p

watching the videos, i seem to have misassumed indeed :p
so here is a revising of the opinion, said walljumps as in the vid are indeed more helpfull :)

Sorry. I just saw i had posted the same video twice ( it's not that easy to check things through a mobile phone at your work XD ). I had done rj2. Down below is the second vid where I had tried your suggestion previously(it should had been with the first video)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdDC_pFIJNk

I'll try later. I'll be home only on this weekend so right now , only tips, advices and feedbacks are welcome.
Baby_Cookie[WOLF] Sep 8, 2014 @ 12:13pm
well, i'm not one of the pro jumpers

but somehow i do find the "nooby" ( if you could really call it that ) way functional though

hug the wall
and when you want to jump, turn jump shoot --- of you go ( all in one fluid movement )

granted you could state that you lose view in front of you when you do that ( but once it has become fluid and with a decent sensitivity, it's practically neglectable )
if someone is going to show up in that fraction of a second you look backwards and kills you, you are going to die if you were looking forward as well, cause you can't run away fast enough anyway :p
