colored chat messages
seen some in casual and in screenshots, are they the result of a cheat or some weird bel unicode character "[BEL]"

which doesn't work

i saw it in casual, valve official matchmaking casual, some have said it's from linux but there's still no documentation

It's certainly not a community sever thing. I've just seen it too in a game of casual doublecross.

as far as I'm aware it's done via markdown, but I haven't actually tried it myself so I might be wrong.

only thing i have managed to uncover is that it's only doable in linux and it may be a cheater thing

edit: inspected it further, custom character codes indicate it may not just be a cheater thing? watin for more info

i think on linux you can use something like \x07 to choose colors

Ok so everything i was able to gouge out of punching bag's replies (thanks man)
1. the bel unicode that i mentioned works, but required some specific setup to work,
2. this only works if you're either dead or using team chat

by using this, typign and customizing the colors, and specifically copying the colored text by clicking on the preview below, you can have your own custom colored message.
4. This is not a cheat whatsoever
