Level Weapons

okay so i recently noticed the level under the weapon's name (e.g. level 10 sandvich), and have no idea what the hell that is for. It doesn't do anything, does it? i've seen people selling a level 100 strange scattergun for buds, not sure exactly how many, but alot. Is this just an excuse to sell them for higher prices? or are they actually meaningful?

The levels don't do anything. They're just aesthetic.

Levels dont affect the weapon. Some people just like to collect weapons of a certain level.

They don't level up. It gets a random number and it stays that way forever.

So much misinformation in this thread. The higher the level, the more damage the weapon deals. It's a small bonus, however. Some weapons are level-locked because they'd glitch if their levels were any other than what they're locked at.
