In Payload it helps the pushing team however everyone else will whine, because they suck and didn't use sentries and such :)
2. Legitimate and effective strategy.
2. A legitimate way of killing or stalling enemies, despite being hard to pull off if your enemies have a brain.
Spawn camping is sitting outside of someone else's spawn.
What it truly is, staying in your spawn spamming anything with infinite health and ammo from the cabinets if you do get over there to replenish your health and or ammunition.
Engineers on ctf_2fort do it all the time.
How I feel
People are sitting in their spawn, spamming god knows what, it's wrong if they sit in their spawn spamming a ton of projectiles simply because that is their last defense mechanism.
On the other hand, the mainstream definition of spawn camping; A-OK.
This is simply representing dominance over the other team, that they pushed so far.
Granted they pushed them into their spawn; they should have some chance to "push out".
The ones being cornered in their spawns have the cabinets for health and ammo.
If one team spawn camps them for an entire time and the spawn campers win, that simply proves that the opposing team had just simply failed at completing their objective.
If you can't push your way with infinite ammo and health, you are a bad player.
I cincerely hope that -bg- does make note of my article in his video.
Mostly agree, but re: effectiveness it's a bit riskier and questionable when defending the last CP of a map given the speed at which a spy or jumper and cap them. Somebody should hang back to guard against that.
Lets compare other games.
Half-Life: literally place tripmines at the spawns for instakill and hide so they can't find you
Call of Duty series: entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ series is just sit there and knife.
Soul Reaver: oh jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ you hit me right after i emerge from the spectral relm.
2: most spawn campers are noobs with little to 0 skills and will just spawn camp for a long time to get cheap kills and enititled dominaitons when you need to EARN those kills AND dominaitons. I don't mind the 5 second spawn camping, but when its half the round and taht cart hasn't moved or time is ticking down, its a load of pyro crap with kuni spy crab cakes
In TF2 teams do have some freedom around the spawn but still, the game is balanced so that there were many ways through the map. Any narrow place is extremely dangerous as it leaves little room for dodging, as well as makes it easier to snipe.
The best CP location for spawn camping (I think many would agree) is Dustbowl where Blue have 3 very narrow ways out of the bunker. And splash damage from Demos and Sols become way too effective. 3 players can keep the bunker locked. It's possible to use uber to try and get out but it may be not enough. After all, all the Red team focuses on the exit, many other classes cover, Red may have own uber, sentries that Blue cannot possibly set.
Some call locked team noobs but really there's no way but to coop via mic and coordinate actions VERY precise to make Red waste ammo on first 2-3 Heavies, then go out all the rest at once, maybe use RJ/SJ, maybe try to get a Spy out. But that only means the Blue team is noob. If the teams are equal the balance is strongly on Red side.
I consider ANY playing style that leaves the other team no chances unfair and low. Even if it's extreme accuracy with sniper rifle. Being smarter, more skilled, knowing the map better is fair. But when no matter what skill you have you cannot possibly pass the map - it's not playing, it's no struggle as it has no aim. It's playing dummies for LMB pressing practice of the other team. Nothing pro. And yes, extreme pro playing is understandable at least but spawn camping is a dirty trick that even skilless players can pull. It makes no sense keeping playing vs such a team. It ruins the match.
I only do spawn locking vs a team that did it the round before, so to say, a lesson, a "how do you like that? fun?". But if I see my team doing it for no reason I leave. It's no fun, they get all the kills and even fight for frags. It becomes way too disgusting. No skill involved. Strangely, I often see it done by people obviously very good at TF2. Pro RJ Sols with expensive hats and pocket Meds same type. They make me sick. They show how afraid of the other team they are, afraid of losing 5 domi, they can't even fight them fair, face to face.
So it's negative. Strongly negative about spawn camping. Common sense, it's disgusting. Like a 40 years old sportsman beating a 10 years old girl.
I feel that if a team is getting spawn-camped, it's the team getting camped that is at fault. If you're getting spawncamped in tf2, it likely means that either your team has far less coordination than the other, or your team simply sucks. One well-used ubercharge is all it really takes to bust out of spawn.
2) its fine because spawn camping is easy to break out of. Just get a medic healing a heavy and uber and you can break out of the camping situation quite easy.
