Favorite servers/history randomly gone

There have been a number of threads about this issue, but here goes anyway---

My favorites and history lists in TF2 have suddenly vanished; it was working fine today, but I thought maybe the most recent Steam update screwed something up, so I followed the instructions on a number of the aforementioned threads, which basically amounts to restarting the Steam client a buncha times, revalidating TF2's files, and then deleting a couple files, namely "clientregistry.blob" and "serverbrowser.vdf", more restarts, nothing.

Its only a mild ♥♥♥-pain I guess, the main server browser seems to function (I didn't test it thoroughly though, I got frustrated and quit jerking around with it).

There are apparently reports of this randomly happening to people, some of them claim they fixed it, some say its still an issue for them --- any feedback is appreciated :D

HOW IS THIS STILL A THING and there not be a concrete solution -.- Someone who knows more about how Source games work might could figure out what files, like the two above, actually store favorites information, and then try and determine what is happening to them. I am willing to guess that CCleaner may have trashed some important files, but that is merely a guess - I use the matchmaker nowadays, so this has not affected me in the 4 years that have passed since I posted this. Some of the suggestions in this thread or the threads I have linked to may help you in the meantime, good luck!

Oh yeah, I forgot that part, one of the threads suggested connecting to a random server and disconnecting, for him that brought his lists back; while I was doing that, I tabbed out and looked at the browser through Steam, and the server I'd connected to (a 24/7 of a map I've never played) was in my favorites - NOT history - and nothing else ^^ and when I disconnected, it was gone again.

Weird.

Edit: Also, I notice my blacklisted servers are gone while looking at the main browser, not surprisingly I suppose considering the others aren't showing up. However I did just confirm, the main browser works fine, by some miracle I found one of the Skial servers I frequent and tried to add it to my favorites, no luck :|

This is happening to me too. I can't add any servers to my favorites or blacklist, except what the game randomly decided to not delete. Now I can't do anything I want to, and don't understand how to fix this. Please help anyone.

Honestly it just randomly started working for me, when it has happened; it hasn't happened to me in a while though, probably since I made this thread :\

I can tell you that the server browser is part of STEAM and not the games themselves, in this case TF2; perhaps this will help you:

I can't even join ANY game weather is one of my favs, internet, blacklist, spectate, nothing not even Offical, I can't even join my friends when there in a game like WTF.

You might just have the server not full or server has users playing boxes marked on your search filters by accident if its just one server.

it seems odd that it STILL occurs, I mean this post itself is 2 years old and some of the links I referenced are way older than that...it must not be technically a bug or glitch

it must be some sort of sync issue, I wonder if clearing the "remotecache.vdf" (and everything else) under TF2's user-save directory (steam/Userdata/YourUserID/440) would help at all; I have no idea what file actually stores your loadout settings but it would almost have to be saved on the SteamCloud..

Maybe that's it? SteamCloud always updates saves/config files under that directory when you launch or close a game, its possible that that file got corrupted at some point and Steam keeps re-downloading a borked file, I've had that problem with other games before.
