Why is Hightower so popular with people who prefer to "have fun" and not complete the objective?
How did this happen? It's littered with Trolldiers, Sticky Jumper Demoman experts, and thousand hour sniper mains with suspicious god like aiming skills, who will 100% target you exclusively if you "ruin" their fun. Plus, they hold the map hostage for over an hour since there's no time limit, griefing those who want to complete a contract.

Surprisingly, this never happens with the Halloween version as it is one of my favorite maps. Put a time limit on payload race!

map is horrible for capping, but great for infinite deathmatch.

I think it's a good map for deathmatch, I myself use it to practise rocket jumps and market gardens and I imagine many other people do. Good sniper map as well. It's kind of just a haven in the community as a casual map that doesn't get played too seriously.
I believe Star was initially the one who started this trend, and then people decided they were going to force it upon everyone in casual as time went by because, well, this pretty much:

What's funny though there's literally 24/7 hightower servers that play just like casual, except they remove the payloads out entirely, some even remove engineer as well to make it easier for them. Which you'd think they'd be all in on. But no, they often will make the claim that it's somehow different. What they're really telling you is that they actually enjoy harassing's the people who just want to play the game, their appeal is making people made for reactions and nothing more.

When I used to play regularly with my friends, we would start going medics and demo if they got too bad and just spawn camp them for the entire game, or until they rage quit from the match. Often saying "chill man, it's just a casual match. Stop being so sweaty".

because the map is really bad. I dont really understand the appeal of it. Its fun to ruin the game as sniper or gunslinger engie for awhile but it gets boring. Cant even troldier way too many gunslinger engies

This, Ster did this to harvest as well; such is the hold memes have over tf2
It's one of the most stalematey maps in TF2. Join a match and you'll most likely see both carts on final. It's EXTREMELY easy to stop the last push.
Because YouTubers like LazyPurple and SoundSmith made videos on them. Everyone who says that it's because the map is poorly designed and stalematey is speaking nonsense. There's tons of maps that are just as stalematey if not moreso, but they aren't the friendly deathmatch map because they aren't the YouTuber map. Hightower is really bad for deathmatch, too, since it's just huge open sightlines for Snipers to own everyone on. There's very little cover & map geometry to play around, it's essentially just a big featureless box.

it's like 2fort in the sense that it's very easy to get into combat and zone out

think of how far the spawns are away from each other

Because they have no original thoughts of their own

High ceilings, free of things that break the game's physics like water, caping can take forever even if both teams are playing seriously thanks to the lift gimmick and it's rather small compared to other maps on the roaster.

The same applies to 2fort and turbine, in general due to the difficulty of the cap points even the most serious of matches tend to devolve into deathmatch-esque stalemates.

I argue this isn't true for 8v8 though, I remember 2fort played way better on console as it was 8v8 due to the lack of players running around in such a small space and the same would probably apply to hightower.

Trolldier's natural habitat. Really makes you want to place a sentry :ujel:

Can anyone name another game that has a situation like 2Fort or Hightower of people just running around killing each other forever and not wanting the round to end....I can't.

Closest would be 24/7 Nuketown servers from COD.

Well why not practice on custom servers?

Because Hightower in general is just a really trash map to begin with, if I had to guess why Helltower isn't treated the same way it's most likely due to the spells and the skeletons that appear every so often.

But I do agree though that payload race and capture the flag seriously need a time limit.
