Help Me Learn to Play as Spy!

I've logged in almost 25 hours as Spy. He is by far my most played class. However, he is also one of my weakest. Even if I play on official VALVe servers (which are supposedly filled with morons) I am still the worst Spy in the world. I understand, 25 hours isn't enough to be a good Spy, but I'd at least like to see improvement. I've tried every knife, every watch, and every revolver, and none of them work in my favor enough to help me do anything. I understand the whole 180 degrees backstab area, but that doesn't matter when the second someone sees me they know I'm a Spy. In every Spy tutorial I've watched, the people are completely oblivious and are literally wearing t-shirts that say, "I'm too stupid to turn around, backstab me." Then I go on a server and people have files downloaded that play sirens when a Spy is within a 50 foot radius of them. I feel that unless you've been playing as Spy since the beginning of TF2, it's almost impossible to learn, because everyone else already knows how to Spy-check, but you have no clue what you're doing. It's like taking someone who's never played video games before and starting them off with Battletoads. Also, all of the "good" Spies on YouTube are full of it. They think it's about getting trickstabs and they don't even try to be sneaky. They'll tell you, "It doesn't matter if you're not helping your team. Even if you lose, you actually won if you dominated everyone on the server." You are taught to go for Engineers and Snipers, but they have the most gifts to counter Spies aside from the Pyro. Snipers have Jarate and the Razorback, and Engineers have the Wrangler and the Southern Hospitality. Even most of the other classes have ways of Spy-checking. Scout's Scattergun does a lot of damage and he has Mad Milk, Pyro has basically every flamethrower and the Homewrecker, and Heavies have the Huo-Long Heater. I have watched dozens of tutorials and read all of the guides on the Internet but it seems like people are having different problems than I am. I'm normally pretty good at games that involve stealth, but with the Spy, it seems like you have to throw out the entire concept of being sneaky and just run around killing everyone. If anyone has any tips, it would be much appreciated. Thank you, or, as the Spy would say, "Merci!"

- Never uncloak right next to anyone (especially if you're using the Dead Ringer). They will hear the uncloaking sound know that you're there.

- Choose your disguises wisely. You almost never see a Sniper with the stock Sniper Rifle in the middle of the battlefield.

- On the topic of disguises, never disguise as Scout. You will still run at 100% speed as opposed to the Scout's 133% default running speed. Disguising as him is like holding a big neon sign up that says "I AM A SPY. KILL ME"

Remember to actually sap stuff even if you can't get a backstab. Work with your team, if they're about to make a push immediately sap all buildings, odds are they will be destroyed and it will make the push last longer due to no sentries to weaken your team.

Oh and the tip: use the freakin' revolver, it deals knife damage and has 100% accuracy on first shot (and later on with cooldowns)

If it's valve just do whatever you can to get backstabs because nothing else will make a difference.

Never Disguise as Medic. A medic not healing anyone is usually Spy.
A spy. Why would a spy be behind their own team's lines
A Demoman, Soldier and Heavy Get reduced Speed.

B is also quick disguise to go to your last one (helpful for being quick if you use the dead ringer)

Medic is my go-to-disguise if I want to run in for a quick backstab - people see a Medic with his medigun out running up behind a group of his team-mates, they assume he's going for a heal. They see a friendly Engy, Spy or Sniper doing that? Alarm bells ringing.

When cloaking to escape, switch directions when you're fully cloaked to avoid the enemy's projectiles.

Scout is a pretty good disguise, you will see many pro players disguising at a Scout because of how he is supposed to behave.

Backpedal and jump, and showing up in random places is what you would expect a Scout to do, but that Scout is a Spy, and you're ded. GG m8.

I don't think you guys understand. I know WHAT to do, I just can't do it. Even after practicing for hours I don't even see improvement. I'd at least like to know how to improve just a little. If I can beat my records for backstabs without dying even by one, I'll consider that improvement.

I guess you've just got to have it and be really good at acting, as far it goes in TF2. I have 31 hours of Spy so far, and I can do pretty well, my only problem is that I still have ways to go, my ping, and I'm using a painted Gibus.

Shut up until you see the entire set. Pretty legit.

I would suggest trying to improve on your Spy "acting" and your invisibility escaping. Knowing basic TF2 psychology also goes a long way.

By the way, until you fell yourself at least mediocre at spy, and can get more kills than deaths, I would only use stock weapons. All the spy sub-classes are very specialized.

are you stupid never disgiuse as scout who cares about the way he behaves if you are slower your a dead give away also soem people think that diguising as scout makes your hitbox smaller NO IT DOES NOT ITS BEEN PROVEN
